Squabbalogic in association with the Seymour Centre will present the pre-world premiere of a brand-new Australian musical, THE DISMISSAL, centred on one of the biggest political crises in Australian political history in the York Theatre from June 18-22.
THE DISMISSAL tells the story of the most dramatic event in Australian political history, the firing of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam by the Governor-General Sir John Kerr on November 11th, 1975. In 2019, the award-winning music theatre powerhouse Squabbalogic brings the dark intrigue, larrikin humour and larger than life characters of THE DISMISSAL to the stage in this vibrant, exuberant and rage-filled new Australian musical.
Written by Blake Erickson & Jay James-Moody, with music & lyrics by Laura Murphy, THE DISMISSAL, promises to be the biggest political event of 2019. Squabbalogic have assembled an all-star cast including Matthew Whittet as Norman Gunston, Justin Smith as Gough Whitlam, Marney McQueen as Sir John Kerr, Andrew Cutcliffe as Malcolm Fraser and a powerhouse ensemble which includes Blake Appelqvist, Georgie Bolton, Christian Charisiou, Jodie Harris, Monique Salle and Bishanyia Vincent.
This pre-world premiere production provides a glimpse inside the creative process and invites the audience to participate in shaping the future of a new work. Don’t miss this limited work-in-progress event presentation as we develop, refine and redraft a new theatrical work before your eyes.
