GEELONG REGION CROSS COUNTRY

The Rundown - Round 3 at Bundoora

The Rundown
In what were fantastic conditions, Geelong had a great afternoon at Bundoora yesterday.

Well done to the juniors who competed for their schools in the morning. It is such a big, long day of racing with students kicking things off at 10am, culminating in the Open and Masters Women and then Men’s events by mid afternoon.

Of special note was the performance of our U20 Women. There is such a strong group in this division which bodes so well for our future (and return to Premier Division for our Open Women!). There were four finishers in the top 12 with Rebecca Waters on the podium with one of her best outings yet. So impressive and so looking forward to what these women take to the national cross country championships. Against a strong Glenhuntly charge, our U20 Women finished second. Well done!

Our Open and Masters teams excelled yesterday. Premier men put in their best performance for the season so far with a fifth placing. So great to see such good representation and the return of some familiar and favourite faces. The strength in our over age runners continues to bring fantastic results with 40+ men winning their division. Ellie Pashley’s appearance at Bundoora lifted our women to first place in Division 2. What a thrill it is to see the Geelong singlet cross the finish line in first – thank you Ellie for providing this!

Well, we get to do it all again next weekend when we contest the Ekiden Relay at Anglesea. We will be entering teams today – thanks to all that have put up their hand – and naming teams mid week. Helpers are always needed at relays and if you haven’t put up your hand to assist already it’s not too late. Remember, each team will also require a timer so please bring a parent / partner / friend / family member to assist at Anglesea.
