WHAT'S UP

Just in the nick of time, I finished Timeless, my entry into this year's Pantone Quilt Challenge. This one was a whole lotta fun, and I like it so much, I hung it in our dining room for a while. The colors, the contrast, the matchstick binding.... it all makes me happy. You'll want to check out the challenge winners, as well as all the entries.... seriously, so inspiring!

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

Once again, this issue's round-up is a collection of projects I've seen over the last few weeks that have caught my eye. We are so fortunate to be in a community of such talented makers!

Carolina Oneto's Sky with Diamonds was inspired by the Beatles song, "Lucy in the sky with diamonds," and it's her first pattern! Though I love her rainbow version, it's great that she shares plenty of options in other palettes
(60 "x 60")
Anne/[Flax and Twine]'s hemp twine potholders were designed for Koel Magazine. Can't you just feel the texture? And that leather detailing just puts them over the top!

I had the pleasure of seeing Linda/[lkhomework]'s Atomic Starburst quilt in progress at a recent guild retreat. I loved it then, and I love the finish, her entry in the Pantone Quilt Challenge. The palette is inspired.
It's not every day you see a modern gray and brown quilt, but I love what Cheryl Arkison did with her half-square triangle blocks, creating a delightful sense of value.
Krista/[Poppyprint] jazzed up the hem of her jean shorts using
#aurifil 12wt. Super cute, not to mention clever!

Another Pantone Quilt Challenge quilt, this beauty by Juli/[zahada_mod] actually won second place! I've gone back to look at it over and over again. It was inspired by the facade of the #futurium building in Berlin, Germany. (And I love that one of the Futurium architects commented on Juli's post of her quilt!)
Some of the Bee Sewcial quilters were able to gather for retreat recently, and I was thrilled to see that Karen/[capitolaquilter] had taken the final stitches in her Eyes quilt. I was so intrigued by the prompt when Karen first announced it and her finished quilt, quilted by her sister Sharyl/[itssewscottsdale], is a stunner!

When Susan/[susansantistevan] wrote me thanking me for my Improv Layered Circle tutorial, I thought, "Oh, that's nice." THEN I saw the quilt she had created with it. I mean, WOW! Click through to see a close-up. Seriously, do it!

OFF TOPIC

Have you heard of 1 Second Everyday? I'm late to the party, so it was new to me, and I've been playing with it all of June. It's a video diary, and just takes a few moments to record and edit a clip. Here's a bit about The Origins of 1 Second Everyday, what wikipedia has to say about it, and below, my first video!
[To be perfectly honest, this was my first time including a video in The Scrap Basket, and I couldn't tell if it actually worked here in Mailchimp, so if not, please forgive, and you can see it here!]

A GLANCE BACK

Remember the Crosscut Quiltalong from a few years back? I still see Crosscut quilts popping up in my Instagram feed often. And it was SO FUN to see that 'campers' at the National Quilt Museum (yes, the one in Paducah, Kentucky!) were using my tutorial for Crosscut Blocks to create their own quilts. Aren't they great? I really loved seeing the tutorial being used in a group setting, that it was kid-friendly, AND of course, AT the National Quilt Museum! [nationalquiltmuseum]

GOTTA LOVE IT!

Erica/Kitchen Table Quilting is so prolific, and I'm smitten with her recent scrap quilt, Plaid-ish! Smitten in that I want to make one of my own, and I'm trying to finish up a few things so I can do just that.

In her The Year of the Scrap Quilt, Erica talks about organizing scraps, what makes a scrap quilt successful, and shares scads of pattern ideas for scrap quilts. It's a good thing! [kitchentablequilting]

P.S. Thoroughly enjoyed While She Naps' podcast with Denyse Schmidt recently. Good stuff!
