High Five to all the Dad's

My son made me feel old this past Month. One of the pieces of trivia he learned at school that day was, that I am in fact older than the High Five. According to some, the High Five was invented by accident in an awkward hand slap moment during a baseball game or a basketball game in 1977 or 78. There are conflicting opinions on which moment was the one. As hands do, this one caught on and has become THE hand gesture of choice for team spirit and general awesomeness inducing camaraderie. Unless you count that weird pat on the butt thing, which is a close second. Dad jokes aside, let's see what my hands have been up to...

Read on for some new projects and my monthly music playlist of diverse tunes that have been the backdrop to this months activities, including a super fun version of Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing.

AIGA Road Trip

A few of my AIGA AVL friends and I road tripped to Knoxville for an Aaron Draplin workshop and "speaking fiasco". I attended both his workshop during the day and the talk afterward. Then a few of us headed over to Elkmont to camp in the Smokies overnight.

Once I got back, feeling a little inspired, I decided to finish out this monogram sketch into a finished logo mark. I started it during that workshop, just for fun. If any multi-level marketers want to buy it, hit me up!

Highlights from GIGANTIC!

The bulk of my paid creative work is with GIGANTIC! these days so here are some highlight of some of the things I've been designing, building, installing or any combination of the three with the stellar team there.

I designed and hand fabricated the timber structure for this sign for French Broad River Academy. Also discovered several rocks in the ground during install. You can see the one in the foreground I pulled out with my bare hands. 😜

Tree of Life

Here is a stylized Tree of Life I designed and hand painted with a faux finish glaze in the background and stark titanium white graphic in the fore. This little gem was part of an art branding package GIGANTIC! did for a Greenfields Deli deli in Greenville.

ha!

Scott and I spent some time out in Marshall installing the interior portion of the new package we designed for 62 S. Main St. We'll be installing the new exterior sign next week. So follow our feeds for more on that one!

Final Thoughts

"Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time?

That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of the past nor the shadow of the future."

Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
