Concerned that your family's finances could hold your student back? Many colleges want to help.
Two years ago, 30 colleges, along with representatives from the philanthropic and research communities, formed the American Talent Initiative (ATI), which aims to increase talented low-income students' access to college. Today, ATI includes 108 schools and is making great strides in increasing access for students around the country.
Also - these three colleges are creating new solutions for battling student debt.

The College Board messed up - and it was to students' advantage. Many students dread the "grid-in" math problems, and now the College Board likely does too. Test graders for the May SAT were not given all possible answers to a math grid-in question, causing many correct answers to be marked wrong. Although the College Board has sent notices to students whose scores have increased, the organization has not officially announced the error. Students can use this incident as a reminder that the test makers - as intimidating and all-powerful as they seem - can make mistakes. These standardized tests should be respected, but not feared.

Should every student go to a four-year college? Does your school present options to your students outside of the "traditional" college track? This New York Times article from The Learning Network was written for students, but it opens a discussion for everyone involved in higher education. Are students getting the support they need? There are as many different paths after high school as there are students graduating, and each student deserves information about all of their options. Also - this Forbes article talks about one option - taking a gap year or gap semester.
