ORION'S NEW HQ
Earlier this week, Orion Federal Credit Union started its move to a brand new corporate headquarters. More than 150 employees are set to make the pilgrimage from the current Wolfchase site to the Edge District, with Orion setting up shop inside the former Wonder Bread factory at 400 Monroe Ave.
The move has been in the works since 2017, when Orion leadership decided that a new location could be of benefit both to the company and to the city. A core tenet of the credit union’s mission is to give back to the community. With the Wonder Bread factory having been vacant since 2013, it was a good candidate to be repurposed.
“When considering a new location for our headquarters, we saw an opportunity to benefit Memphis and the communities we serve,” said Orion CEO Daniel Weickenand in a press release. “A strong city core can create a ripple effect for development and energy throughout the region. We’re proud to be a part of that with this move.”
Board chairman Andrew Fowlkes agreed that the new headquarters needed to provide a boost to Memphis. “The location in the Edge was chosen when the Orion leadership agreed that the organization could strategically position their corporate headquarters to anchor a historic Memphis neighborhood, end blight, spur commercial and residential growth, and reinforce a critical connection between the Medical District and Downtown Memphis.”
While the building retains the large Wonder Bread sign with updated lighting, architectural partner Looney Ricks Kiss used the building’s existing foundation to craft a more modern-looking space. The building isn’t Orion’s first foray into reducing blight: back in 2017, the company set up a Silver LEED certified location at a remediated brownfield site across from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

- There’s been buzz about ketamine, traditionally used for anesthesia, for its effective treatment for depression, PTSD, bipolar mood disorder and chronic pain. Dr. Michael Steuer, president and medical director at MidSouth Pain Center, which operates six clinics in the Mid-South employing 100-plus and treating 3,000 patients a month, is opening Pacific Ketamine Institute in Beverly Hills, California. The Memphis locations will stay open. PKI’s Beverly Hills location has five treatment rooms that can accommodate up to 40 treatment sessions per day. The facility also provides a lounge with five-star-hotel fixtures and fittings intended to help patients relax and reacclimate post-treatment.
- Sprouts Farmers Market stores are hosting walk-in interviews during a National Hiring Day event on June 11 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The healthy grocer’s interview day will be held across its more than 300 stores from coast to coast with approximately 1,500 full- and part-time, non-seasonal positions open to meet the demand for its natural and organic products. Interviews will be held at each Sprouts location, and available positions can be found at sprouts.com/careers. Minimum age to work is 16 years old. Employment opportunities include department managers and assistant department managers (produce, deli, meat and seafood, vitamins and body care, grocery, bakery and more); cashiers; clerks; backup receivers and scan coordinators. Open positions vary by store location.

- The American Advertising Federation (AAF) named Ducks Unlimited CMO Steve Pacheco its new president and CEO. He succeeds James Edmund Datri, who had announced he would step down after 10 years. Pacheco has 30 years of marketing industry experience, including more than 20 as managing director of advertising and sponsorship marketing at FedEx, before joining Ducks Unlimited.
- Memphis-based Fogelman Properties, one of the country's largest, privately owned and fully integrated multifamily investment and property management companies, recently acquired Ashford East Village, a 371-unit multifamily community in East Atlanta Village.
- IMC Companies received several safety awards by Great West Casualty Company as part of Great West’s Annual Workplace Safety Awards Program. Five regional companies under the IMC umbrella received distinctions: Platinum Safety Award - Atlantic Intermodal Services, DNJ Intermodal Services, Gulf Intermodal Services, and H&M Intermodal Services.
