Weekly Parliamentary Diary
The announcement of the closure of the Ford Bridgend plant this week will be devastating news for so many people & their families. We must ensure that all workers are fully supported through this difficult time. The economic uncertainty caused by Brexit is only set to damage our communities further. If there are any workers or families affected by this in Cardiff North, please contact my office on 02920 624440.

75th Anniversary of D-Day
This week saw us remember the immense heroism of the soldiers who fought against fascism on the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago.
We are forever in their debt for the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

Investment in public transport
I met with representatives from Transport for Wales. We had a positive discussion on the investments being made across Wales's transport system. Particularly the transformation that the South Wales Metro will make to Cardiff. Lots of work is being done to ensure that Wales's transport system is fit for purpose in an age when we should be promoting wider public transport usage.
I'm pleased that there will be no M4 relief road built across the Gwent levels, a designated area of specific scientific interest. However, we desperately need a solution to that stretch of M4 for our businesses and economy in Cardiff North and the rest of South Wales. This decision has gone on too long, we need to see a viable alternative to address the ongoing concerns as soon as possible.

WASPI Women judicial review
This week at Parliament, I was delighted to meet up with Cardiff North campaigners from the WASPI Women campaign. They and associated group Back to 60 are taking the U.K Government to court after their pension age was raised at short notice. I wish them the best of luck with the upcoming ruling on their judicial review into the botched handling of their pension age increase.

Solar Trade Association Meeting
This week I met with the Solar Trade Association to discuss the move to renewable energy and in particular solving the grid issues in South Wales.
The Tory Government has had a catastrophic effect on the solar industry, which is one that the government should be supporting, not undermining.
We must ensure that there are financial incentives for the use of renewable energy sources. Renewable sources of energy are a tangible way of combating the climate emergency and the UK Government's actions again displays that their actions do not match their rhetoric on this issue.

Usdaw retail strategy discussion
On Wednesday I was at the launch of Usdaw's Industrial Strategy for Retail, which saw interventions from Paddy Lilis USDAW's General Secretary, John McDonnell, Alison Philips of the Daily Mirror, businessman Bill Grimsey and Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive of the Consortium. The U.K's retail sector is under huge pressure and the strategy presented shows the steps needed to keep retail at the heart of our communities and our economy. It was an excellent discussion on how to save our shops.
You can read the whole strategy here.

Senedd reception for Bangladesh cricket team
Great to meet the Bangladesh Foreign Minister, the High Commissioner and members of the Bangladesh Cricket Team ahead of their World Cup fixture in Cardiff tomorrow. Organised by Cllr Dilwar Ali and chaired by Julie Morgan AM, the event was a fantastic opportunity to meet up with our Bangladeshi community in Cardiff.

Earlier today I hosted an open advice surgery in Thornhill Church Community Centre. It was great to talk to constituents about issues including Brexit, schools and housing. Delighted to hear that Dr Al Sallo has now received his PhD after helping resolve his visa issues. Please see below for details of future surgeries.
