Save Our Suffolk Estuary.

As part of the Save Our Suffolk Estuary fundraising campaign we are organising our inaugural summer flotilla and encouraging our river-loving community to get involved.

Taking place on Sunday 28th July, participants are invited to either swim, kayak, row, canoe or paddle-board their way from Aldeburgh Yacht Club, making their way seven kilometres down the estuary, to Orford Sailing Club.

There will be two classes of swimmers in the flotilla; an elite class, who are used to swimming three or more miles in open water who will set off first and be timed, followed by the recreational swimmers who are expected to take around two hours to complete the course with help from the outgoing tide.

Entry is £50 for each swimmer and £30 for the non-swimmers, which is refundable if, through sponsorship, those involved donate more than the fee to the Trust.

Supported by the RNLI, we had a trial run last year and it worked really well. Amazingly one paddle-boarder completed the distance in an hour.
For those who prefer a more land-based activity, there is also the option to walk the distance on the far side of the river. For more details please contact the Alde & Ore Association.

A large number of independent Suffolk-based businesses, including O&C Butcher, The Wentworth Hotel and Best Of Suffolk are sponsoring the event which allows for 100% of the funds raised from the flotilla to be used towards vital flood defences along the estuary, for which we are enormously grateful.

If you would like to enter the flotilla please go to the Events page of our website HERE. The number of places in each class is strictly limited, so please don't delay. Entry is available to over 16 year olds only.

With enormous thanks to all our sponsors and supporters whose generosity has ensured 100% of the funds raised from the flotilla will be be used to maintain and upgrade the estuary river walls.
