Hi Everyone-
This is a good problem to have, but it is still a problem that needs a solution so I am asking for your help!
We need more volunteer docents.
With the Museum busier than ever (the last three Saturdays visitors counts have been around 100) extended hours, and the All Star Game coming up we need additional help.  We are way too busy and its not good for the security of the collection to have only one volunteer standing by at any given time. We need a minimum of  two per shift, three is ideal.
Our current pool of docents is very good. We just need more. If you know of anyone who might be interested in helping out please send them my way. They don't need to be baseball fans, they can be taught what they need to know to guide visitors. The do need to be reliable and to adhere to the docent guidelines.
Thanks!
Margaret

Baseball Heritage Museum Docent Guidelines 2019
  • Sign up for volunteer shifts using the Sign-Up link that will be emailed to you once a month. If shifts are filled for the day, please look for other times when your help might be needed.
  • Be on time for the shifts you have committed to work and when you arrive help get the Museum ready for visitors. Depending on the day’s activities you may be assigned specific duties (outside tours, membership, visitor counter).
  • Wear your Baseball Heritage Museum shirt so you are easily identifiable as a docent.
  • Turn off phones or keep them on vibrate. If you need to charge a phone, please do not leave it charging in plain sight among the exhibits.
  • Do not accept calls in the Museum. Please step outside if you need to respond.
  • No eating or drinking on the Museum floor. Bottled water is the exception.
  • Do not keep beverages and food in the merchandise closet. This compromises the merchandise and attracts vermin. You may keep these things on the second floor and take breaks upstairs or outside as needed.
  • Always be ready for a visitor.Do not stand with your back to the door. Discontinue conversations with other docents when you hear the door open.
  • Do not have personal conversations with other docents while there are visitors in the Museum.
  • Do not congregate at the door. When a visitor comes in docents need to spread out to
make sure all areas of the Museum are viewable. This is for security purposes. There are blind spots in the Museum that can’t be seen from the door.

  • Welcome visitors using the following protocols.Ask them if it their first visit.Share an introductory bit of information as in “This was the original ticket office”. If they ask if
there is an admission charge, tell them there is not but donations are appreciated. Share that docents are available for questions and then let them browse at their own pace.

  • Be prepared and knowledgeable and ready to answer questions about League Park and baseball history and the museum collection. If you are unsure, ask a fellow docent.
  • Only answer the question(s) asked.
  • Do not share personal baseball stories that do not have a connection to the Museum or League Park. If you do have a related story keep it brief so visitors can continue to explore.
  • Be aware of your voice volume. The museum acoustics are best managed with lowered voice levels.
