Several Lester B. Pearson schools facing closure due to low enrolment.

Several Lester B. Pearson School Board schools could close due to declining enrolment and that trend may not slow down for years, according to board members.“Over the next five years, we’re expecting to lose another 1,000 high school students,” said board chair Noel Burke.

Hampstead unanimously passes resolution not to enforce Bill 21 or recognize it as legitimate.

Hampstead’s municipal council passed a unanimous resolution Monday night stating it will not enforce the Quebec government’s secularism bill. “The town of Hampstead will not recognize the legitimacy of any law such as this one,” said Mayor William Steinberg. 

EMSB parents and students form human chain around 7 schools.

Parents and students formed a human chain around Gerald McShane Elementary School, banging drums and chanting “save our school”. It’s the latest effort by the community to prevent three English Montreal School Board schools from disappearing into the French system.  

 
 
Housefather reports on access to justice in both official languages.

Mount Royal MP Anthony Housefather recently reported in the Commons on progress regarding access to justice in both of Canada's official languages, English and French. "In my view, all Canadians from all provinces and territories should have access to justice in both of Canada's official languages," the MP said.

AGO acquires large collection of historical Caribbean photographs.

The Art Gallery of Ontario has acquired a new photography collection that captures life in the Caribbean following the end of slavery in the region. More than $300,000 was raised by members of Toronto's Black and Caribbean communities to bring the collection to the AGO.

Nova Scotia graduate student says he was racially profiled while attending a UBC-hosted congress put on by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Warriors part-owner who shoved Raptors' Lowry fined $500K, banned 1 year.

The NBA has banned Golden State Warriors minority owner Mark Stevens for one season in addition to fining him $500,000 after shoving and repeatedly cursing at Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry while seated courtside for Game 3 of the NBA finals.
