Vertical Flight Society Expands Support of Electric VTOL
Press Release, June 10, 2019 (excerpts below)

The Vertical Flight Society, the world’s leading non-profit organization working to advance vertical flight, today announced several initiatives that expand its support to the growing field of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aviation. This expansion includes new personnel, eVTOL workshops and partnerships, and eVTOL educational resources.
  • VFS is pleased to welcome James Sherman as the Society’s Director of Strategic Development, responsible for setting and executing the Society’s strategy for promoting membership development and growth.
  • In January, Rex Alexander, President of Five-Alpha LLC, joined VFS as the Advisor for VTOL Infrastructure
  • VFS held the world’s first workshop on “Transformative Vertical Flight” electric aircraft in 2014, and is planning its 7th Annual Electric VTOL Symposium in San Jose, California, Jan. 21-23, 2020 (www.vtol.org/evtol2020) — this is the world’s largest and longest-running technical event focusing on the incredible promise, progress and challenges of eVTOL aircraft.
  • VFS will be offering its first dedicated Workshop on eVTOL Defining Challenges, Sept. 10-12, 2019, in the Washington, DC area (www.vtol.org/dc). Covering system safety, infrastructure and airspace management, this will be the first in a new series of workshops on the defining challenges of electric VTOL developments.
  • The Vertical Flight Society is also pleased to announce it has now partnered with the highly-respected Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency (CAFE) Foundation to support its 13th annual Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS), to be held at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, July 20–21, 2019, just prior to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture Oshkosh. (See www.CAFE.foundation for details.)
  • As an educational technical professional society, VFS held the world’s first eVTOL technical short course in 2018 and has now five separate eVTOL-related courses — including in aeromechanics and acoustic modeling — available as video-on-demand classes (totaling 30 hours), plus more than 100 hours of complimentary online videos of eVTOL/UAM lectures and workshops by world leading experts. The Society’s Vertical Flight Video Library has links to all of these offerings at www.vtol.org/videos.
  • The Society initiated The Electric VTOL News newsletter in 2016 and its website, www.eVTOL.news, in 2017. In addition to some 200 eVTOL articles, the website now catalogs more than 175 eVTOL aircraft design concepts, and includes a timeline of developments, a global map of developers, and company directories.
This is an excerpt. The full press release has been posted on the VFS website.

Forum 75 Was Incredible!

The Vertical Flight Society held its 75th Annual Forum & Technology Display, the world's leading international event on vertical flight technology, on May 13-16, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This special 75th anniversary event spanned four days and included a record 280+ technical papers, plus 75 presentations and discussions by leaders in industry, the military, government agencies and academia. Forum 75 was a spectacular success with a record 1,400 attendees celebrated 75 years of advancing vertical flight.

The Forum again featured an entire day of in-depth invited talks on electric VTOL/urban air mobility (UAM). Individual presentations and session videos have been posted.

NEXA Advisors and the Vertical Flight Society are collaborating on an important study, "Urban Air Mobility (UAM) — Economics and Global Markets." The prospectus for this groundbreaking study is available now: www.nexaadvisors.com/uam-study. It covers market and economic forecasts for more than 75 metropolitan areas, 2020 – 2040, including technologies, policies, markets, infrastructure and economics.
