2019 term 2 update

"Depend upon it, God's work, done in God's way, will never lack God's supplies." —Hudson Taylor

God's Supplies

We have learned first hand the truth in the Hudson Taylor quote above.

This year, we have had more MKKs, and MKKs with greater financial needs, than ever before. We can easily idolize the idea of a human benefactor who makes sure that we keep a hefty balance in the bank. Our true benefactor has more wealth than any human, and he chooses to supply us on an as needed basis. He requires constant and consistent faith from us, and he faithfully provides, constantly and consistently.

Hudson Taylor also said, "I told Him that all the responsibility as to the issues and consequences must rest with Him; that as His servant it was mine to obey and to follow Him, His to direct, care for and guide me and those who might labour with me."

These words are uplifting to us this year, as we look at needs and what we have on hand to meet them - it hasn't been enough. And yet it has. At the beginning of term 2, we could only pay half of the school fees due for the MKKs, even though we had been saving up for 3 months. A mere 6 weeks later, we paid off the balance, and we have money to buy airline tickets for the Kahindi family to visit Texas. This is how God does his work, his way, with his supplies.

Rooted, Built Up, and Established in the Faith

We kicked off MKK Camp in April with a challenging game. Teams of MKKs stood all together on a small tarp. Without stepping off the tarp, they had to flip it upside down, then right-side up again. There are a few techniques that help accomplish this, but the team is left to figure it out for themselves. One team spent almost a full hour working it out. What dedication! What perseverance!

These are traits that will serve them well in school and in a life of following Christ.

Our theme verse for Camp (as well as our theme for the year) was Colossians 2:6-7, an excerpt of which is at the top of this email. What does it mean to be rooted? What does it mean to be built up? What does it mean to be established in the faith?

We answered these questions in sessions led by the Maisha Kamili team and, for the first time, a graduated MKK and a volunteer from church. It was significant and meaningful for the MKKs to hear young people like them talk about Scripture and how to apply it to their lives.

Next...

We are still in need of sponsors for some MKKs. You can see the list on our Current Opportunities email (click here). Pray over these MKKs, for God's provision in all areas of their lives. This is Full Life - we aren't just interested in education, but desire to see these young people walk in the full, abundant life that Jesus offers.

We will soon be in Texas! Help us fill our calendar. Arrange for us to come to your church or small group (or just to come over to your house for a cup of coffee) between July 14 and August 31. And pray for us as we purchase airline tickets and get ready to leave Kenya for a couple of months.
