Radical Sustainability Student Film

Our Radical Sustainability event saw us join forces with Interface, corporate sustainability leaders on the global stage.

Students from 8 courses exhibited work on Radical Sustainability projects to compete for professional prizes from Interface. Our finalists joined companies at the Interface masterclass to learn from the best about future business innovation for sustainability.

Used objects to digital musical instruments

Sound Bites is our ‘sustainability makerspace’ project run in collaboration with Pyka. It's trained students in Creative Music Technology, Popular Music and Product Design to create audio devices from old objects and to program innovative digital devices. Students developed sustainability skills which they are now sharing across groups and generations in the community.

Forward Thinking

This event connected academic staff with external organisations, to build collaboration on emerging sustainability agendas. It included business blasts covering areas such as leadership development, financial decision-making, social impact businesses, marketing and retail, entrepreneurship and the experience economy, and tackled resilience scenarios on the global goals that our graduates may face in their future careers.

Global RCE news
A survival guide to the 21st century

This report from Towards Global Learning Goals, a non-profit aimed at improving the ways children are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century, argues that a revolution is needed in terms of how and what humans learn, to ensure the next generation can 'learn the right things in the right way'. It sets out why change is needed, based on interviews with thinkers, educators, learners and policy makers, and seeks out opportunities and ideas, before setting out nine global learning goals, and highlighting champions who will help deliver the transformation of learning.

Re-shaping the Future: new report on climate and ecological breakdown

A new article, on the Gaia Education website, draws attention to a new report that reveals compelling evidence of the effectiveness of community-led responses to climate and ecological breakdown.

The report, which draws on academic studies, grey literature, and informal and experiential knowledge, demonstrates that communities are delivering a much broader set of benefits than technological solutions focussed only on reducing carbon emissions.

RCE Severn is part of a global network of RCEs endorsed by the United Nations University. The RCEs were instrumental in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), translating its global objectives into the context of their local communities. The RCEs now support implementation of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD which followed the DESD.
