We're wrapping up a huge 2018/2019 planting season, planning a fully-booked 2019/2020, and starting our first Youth Tree Team this summer! We just added employee #5, Mr. Stephen Seto, who will be working with our first ever Youth Tree Team (Ford and Jacobey from the EJS Project). Our programming has now expanded to Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach, West Palm Beach and Delray Beach. It just shows us that people need and want to be proactive in making our world a better place. We're thankful for everyone who has helped us a build an urban forestry non-profit. Together, we're gong to make a lasting impact in our communities for years to come!

We had a tree planting party at Howard Park to kickoff our partnership with the City of Lake Worth Beach. Leading up to the planting, Mayor Pam Triolo raised the "Tree City USA" flag in front of City Hall and CG presented to a supportive City Commission and Lake Worth Beach residents. On the day of the planting, 75 people of all ages came out to plant 100 trees! DJ SoNyce had the locals dancing while they planted and everyone was rewarded with a free taco from Tacos al Carbon. City employees, Americorps volunteers, Healthier Lake Worth, an amateur basketball team, Palm Beach Post, and Channel 5 were all there for the celebration.  Special thanks to LWB city staff Mark Stivers and David McGrew for goin' big on our first planting in your city! Nurses, archeologists, veterinarians, bus drivers, and TREE PLANTERS! CG Co-Founders, Mark and Matt had a blast at SD Spady Elementary's Career Day. We talked about trees, the environment, and loving where you work. These Florida kids know their stuff when it comes to why we plant trees (shade, oxygen, food), what types of fruit grow on trees (mangos, avocados, and oranges!) and even the importance of playing outside. 80 kids went home with a Florida native tree to plant!  TREEEEEEEEEEEES!

Community Greening was fortunate to be selected by Keller Williams for their annual RED Day: Renew, Energize, Donate!  Keller Williams real estate agents came out to Orchard View Park to plant trees, mulch the existing trees, and remove invasive air potato.  This spirited group brings their own DJ and loves to have a good time and give back.  Thank you Keller Williams! STEPHEN SETO, COMMUNITY TREE STEWARD

Stephen Seto joins the CG team after volunteering at many tree plantings and playing the piano at CG fundraisers.  Stephen loves fruit trees, worked at the Mouna Farm Arts & Cultural Village in Waianae, Hawaii, plays keyboard in a band, and is a trained classical musician. 

"As a native South Floridian, I have seen too many green spaces disappear in my lifetime. At Community Greening I am working with the Youth Tree Team to teach students the importance of planting trees now, so they will one day benefit from the shade and food they provide."

"Building a better future is what Community Greening means to me. For as much as it pays off to see the immediate impact we had on a site, I think the real payoff will be whenever we drive past a park we worked at in 5, 10, or 20 years from now. Then one can see what was once little more than a twig well on its way to becoming a fully grown tree. This could only have been done by working alongside the knowledgeable arborists in the organization, and through them I have learned things I never knew about tree planting and care. Ultimately the best part about volunteering with this top-notch organization is to be able to take a break from the typical workday and be able to come closer to nature whilst making a lasting measurable difference in the communities that we are a part of."
