Dear Coalition member -

We have entered a CRITICAL WEEK for our #BridgesToBetterJobs campaign!

As the days narrow down to a final budget that we expect to be adopted within the next two weeks, we need to keep the pressure growing on our Council members to make sure the momentum we're building turns into action and millions of dollars in real investments for our communities.

We have to keep this drumbeat going loudly and clearly - join us this WEDNESDAY June 12 for our Coalition Call to learn about the progress we've made and action steps you can take to ensure that the final budget reflects our priorities in bridge programs.

#BridgesToBetterJobs Twitter Rally TODAY

1. Call Your Council Member

Action: Call your Council Member (find phone number here) to tell them to support $70 million in investments in Bridge Programs in the final adopted budget

Sample script:

We at {your organization} know that there are many important issues for the City Council to negotiate with the Mayor in this year’s budget. But we wanted to take the time to ask you to support a $70 investment in Bridge Programs to be included in the final adopted budget.

We are grateful to you and the Council for helping so many New Yorkers to overcome poverty and secure full-time employment through your partnerships with workforce development programs like ours. If more Bridge Programs were available in our community, they would open up new career pathways for people who are locked out of occupational skills training programs due to their challenges with reading, math or English language. We at {your organization} see clients every day who would benefit from more access to programs like these.

So when you’re engaging with the Mayor and your Council colleagues over the next two weeks about budget priorities, we urge you to remember that when you fight for full funding of Bridge Programs, you’re fighting for programs like ours and the low-income or low-skill clients we serve in your community.

Key Council Members to target (these are part of the Budget Negotiations Team):
Margaret Chin, Carlina Rivera, Corey Johnson, Vanessa Gibson, Rafael Salamanca Jr., Francisco Moya, Costa Constantinides, Daniel Dromm, Jimmy Van Bramer, Daneek Miller, Adrienne Adams, Karen Koslowitz, Stephen Levin, Antonio Reynoso, Laurie A Cumbo, Robert E Cornegy Jr., Carlos Menchacha, Mark Treyger, Chaim Deutsch, and Debi Rose

2. Greet City Council Members at City Hall this Thursday

Action: Join us on the City Hall steps this Thursday at 12:30 pm to greet Council members as they enter for the final Council Stated Meeting of this year's budget cycle

We'll greet each of the Council Members as they walk into City Hall for this all-Council public meeting, and remind them how important it is to our communities that they push to include new funding for bridge programs in the final Adopted Budget.

3. Social Media

Action: Tweet your own message about the negative impact the lack of funding for bridge programs has had on your ability to serve your community as best as possible
  • Tell @NYCMayor @NYCSpeakerCoJo about your organization's experiences with having to turn people away from occupational training programs because they do not meet the reading/math/English requirements
    • Sample Tweet: Each year, we unfortunately have to turn hopeful clients away from high level training or career opportunities b/c there are not enough bridge programs available to help them upskill their math or reading in order to succeed & thrive. @NYCMayor - invest in #BridgesToBetterJobs!
    • Sample Tweet: Millions of New Yorkers are locked out of job training programs & career opportunities in NYC’s growing economy b/c @NYCMayor has not invested in necessary services to bridge gap between their skills & career goals #InvestInSkillsNYC #BridgesToBetterJobs @NYCSpeakerCoJo
