Welcome to the Oregon Region's
JUNE Newsletter!

Annie Winter - RS

I cannot thank enough all the wonderful volunteers who showed up at Inavale last weekend to ensure the event ran smoothly. This is the region's one and only fundraiser and allows us to run rallies, camp, upper level preps, mega meetings and mega certifications, among other things. The biggest shout out goes to Tracy Stout, our volunteer coordinator, who worked tirelessly to fill all the gaps. THANK YOU!

Our Show Jumping rally was a huge success up at Clark County Event Center and all 10 teams did so well.

Everyone who qualified for either standard or modified Pony Club Championships 2019 in quiz, dressage or show jumping should have received an entry email from Nationals. Let me know if you have any questions.

Here is a look at what is coming up in the next couple of months; as always, check the ORUSPC website for details.

Michele Stevens - VRS Rallies

Thank you to everyone who has been to the 3 rallies that we have organized so far in 2019!

Coming up next month we have Tetrathlon rally! For those of you who do not know what that is, it is our only rally that includes not only riding, but also running, swimming, and shooting! Arguably the most fun rally we have :-).   It will be held at the beautiful Meadows Vineyard in Halsey, Oregon July 18 -20.  Entry forms are available on our Facebook page, and the regional website! Don’t delay in sending in your entry :-)

In August we will have our Eventing rally-details for that will be out soon!   August 16-18, also in Halsey, OR.

Please join us for Rallying fun!!

Tracy Stout - Volunteer Coordinator

A HUGE thank you is owed to all of you who stepped up and made the trek to Inavale last weekend to volunteer for the event. ORUSPC provides ALL of the volunteers to run the 2 One Day Horse Trials at Inavale and then Inavale pays our region a nice sum that ends up funding a LARGE portion of our annual budget. I have to admit, I was a little worried we weren't going to have enough volunteers to successfully put on the event because many people didn't sign up until just a couple of days before the event (which stressed me out a bit!), but in the end, we had plenty of wiling volunteers, from our newest and youngest members to the more "experienced" members and parents. Your Oregon Region Board members say THANK YOU! The next event we will need volunteers for is Pony Club camp July 14-17. If you or your child is attending camp, you are expected to volunteer to help run camp smoothly. All of the jobs are super easy and don't take very long. They include such things as helping set up or clean up meals, instructor assistants, filling water jugs, and helping with arts and crafts sessions. If anyone is interested in facilitating an arts or craft or some other unmounted project or HM instructional session, please contact me. Right after camp is Tetrathlon Rally, which of course will need volunteers as well. Again, if you or your child is attending Tet Rally, you are expected to volunteer to help put it on. Be on the look out for an email from SignUp Genius and/or me, Tracy Stout, for your opportunity to be a part of these amazingly fun events!

Sheila Hornocker  - HMO

What a great first half of the year we've had so far. Thankfully the school year is nearly complete for students and teachers so we can get started with summer activities such as mega meetings, upper level clinics, pony club camp, the mega certification, Tet rally, champs and the Eventing rally. Our members will hopefully have a fantastic summer, full of pony club fun. Our most recent rally, show jump rally, was a resounding success. It was exciting to hear from our members that they were learning a lot but didn't feel stressed while at rally. We hope to continue along that path so members want to attend every rally, if possible. Time and time again as the chief walked through the barns, she bragged to me about spotless barn isles. Always with a smile and never a complaint, members swept away any possible dirt. Way to go Oregon region!! If your member is headed to champs and looking for study materials to prepare for quiz or just to gain knowledge for a tie at a rally, a great place to look is in the back of the USPC Horse Management Handbook under Section VI Appendices two pages of questions (pages 74 and 75). Some questions are relatively easy but others will take some time to find the answers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who help in our region, especially in the HM department during a rally.
You are amazing!

Club News!

Rose City PC You know all those farm tasks we take for granted like spreading manure, dragging arenas, and mowing pastures to keep our horses comfortable and healthy? Rose City hosted an interesting unmounted meeting with a tractor specialist! We learned how to connect and operate a multitude of tractor attachments, the rules of driving on private and public land, and how to move through traffic on a slow vehicle. We also learned about how powerful a tractor you need for horse farms and what the different levels of power cost. Our members had an enjoyable time learning all this information which was new to almost everyone.

                                    Fun times at Dressage Rally!

Iron Horse Riding Center had quite a few members participate in both the Dressage and Show Jump Rally! Every one had a great time and learned a lot. Tess qualified for Championships in Show Jumping! Several other members finished their first rally: Maya, Isabelle, and Sarah. We are looking forward to camp and the other rallies this summer!
We have LOTS of certifications for our newer members over the next few weeks and our newest member, Annette, got her D1 this past month!

Highland Riders PC - We had a great fundraising show in April (old news but still good news : ), did well at Dressage Rally, and are getting ready for Jump Rally. Woohoo! Our last unmounted meeting covered longing. The girls brought out their multi-tasking skills to start learning how to handle a line and a whip while they longed each other. So many fun things to enjoy in this beautiful weather!

Willow brook PC has had a very busy spring! We had a great group of Jr. Pony clubbers for our 2nd annual Jr PC event. We held a certification and had 7 members test. Congratulations to all of those members. Special thank you to Brindle Ridge Farm in Ridgefield for the use of their fabulous facility for both of those events.
Members had fun at the SJ Rally, we had two mini Stable Managers. Aleena (5yrs) and Payton (6yrs). The time they were allowed in the barn was the perfect introduction to a rally. Our members participated on a catch team and had a great experience.

Willamette Valley PC enjoyed a field trip out to Oakhurst Equine Veterinary in Newberg. Dr. Flynn Magorian did a great presentation on reproduction, foaling, and broodmare and foal care, along with a facility walkabout to visit the foals, mares, and stallions. Members even had the opportunity to watch Dr. Magorian perform an ultrasound on a broodmare. WVPC thank Dr. Magorian for her time and wonderful educational presentation, and Rebekah Muravez for making this field trip possible.
