Hand in Hand Afghanistan (HiH Af) conducted stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Bamyan province to coordinate activities of the Creating Future Economic Prospects for Reintegration Returnees and IDPs through the Layer Poultry Value Chain Project with local stakeholders to further engage them in the project. In this meeting representatives from Provincial Governor Office, Refugees and Repatriation, Economy, Agriculture, Rural Rehabilitation departments, private sectors and project beneficiaries participated.
This project is currently being implemented in Herat and Bamyan provinces to support 2,250 returnees & IDP and is funded by GIZ. See more…
FORMATION OF ABDUL QADER JILANI ASSOCIATION
150 women who are members of Promoting Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment though the Layer Poultry Farming’ project funded by Australian Embassy in Kabul, established an Association in Shaikh Abdul Qader Jilani village of Nahre Shahi District of Balkh Province.
The association is named Dunya and aims to create better integration of members for business activities and have a specific address for marketing and finding the right linkage to communicate and sell eggs in the market. See more…
RECEIVING TOOLKIT TO RUN MICRO-ENTERPRISES
HiH Af distributed poultry tools for 525 women in Injil District and Is-haq Abad area of Herat city. These women previously completed their vocational skills training on layer poultry farming. Following this, the women will receive layer chicken in order to establish their backyard poultry farms, .

ENTERPRISES AND JOBS FOR WOMEN
During this reporting period, Self-Help Group members have saved total AFN 245,110 and lent AFN 386,200 internally.
The enterprises start up kits and internal loans have resulted in establishment and enhancement of 107 (all female) micro-enterprises which has resulted in creation of 75 (all female) jobs in their respective communities.
MEET FRESHTA, AN EMBROIDERER
Thanks to Hand in Hand Afghanistan and all supporters for the program, I received business service training and received support to establish embroidery enterprise. These supports enabled me to learn my favorite occupation and have a better life without suffering, says, Freshta 24 years old, mother of two kids.
She added, “My husband is working in a shop and the income was hardly enough to feed the family and pay house rent. I wanted to send my elder son to kindergarten, but we could not afford that.
Freshta joined the program about a year ago and attended regular group meetings and received series of training including business development services. She says, “I have always been interested in business and having income. I joined Khatera ha Self-Help Group and after completing business training with support of my trainer, I conducted a market survey and selected embroidery, then received vocational skills training and material support from HiH Af to establish my enterprise.”
Freshta earns around AFN 2,500 per month and she could enroll her elder son to a private kindergarten, she says, “It was a dream to start my own business and earn to support my kids, now I do not need to ask my husband for money to cover small family needs”. Read more…
