FINAL CONFERENCE

On the 17th and 18th September 2019, the GO SUMP project organizes the MED Urban Transports Community's final event taking place at OMAU - Urban Environment Observatory in Malaga (Spain), within the European Mobility Week 2019.

The Final Conference of the MED Urban Transports Community will mark the end of the first phase of the GO SUMP project and of the territorial projects of the thematic Community on Urban Transports, an intitative featured by the Interreg MED Programme. This two-days event will further mark the beginning of a new phase, for the horizontal project to further support the promotion and replication of the many tools and approaches developed by the modular projects in the first three years.

The event will start in the afternoon of the 17th September with on-site study visits, offering a unique opportunity to observe some urban transport innovative practices implemented in Malaga through multimodal journeys guided by local experts, and it will finish with an evening reception at an exclusive location.

On the 18th September the attendees will have the possibility to encounter keynote speakers and have the occasion to participate in interactive discussions. The event will be as well an occasion for the modular projects to showcase their achievements in an interactive way and to discuss key policy recommendations and explore future commitments and activities, a part from displaying their results in an outdoor exhibition.

During the second day of the event, the MED Urban Transports Commuity will sign a Memorandum: a key document setting the basis for the future of the projects and their commitments towards the development and mainstreaming of farther measures and strategies promoting sustainable mobility.

The event is open to all modular project partners, including practitioners and decision makers, and other interested stakeholders from the wider Mediterranean region.

The participation to the event is free of charge.

More detailed information on the programme, logistics and registration will be shared in the next weeks.

VOTE LOCATIONS for the REGIOSTARS Awards 2019!
Vote here for LOCATIONS competing in the 4th category of the REGIOSTARS Awards 2019

LOCATIONS, a modular project of the MED Urban Transports Community, is a candidate to the REGIOSTARS awards. At the moment, it is ranked among the top 10 of public choice of the REGIOSTARS awards.

“Inspiring other regions and project managers across Europe” is the aim of this European Union sponsored award, that is handed out by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy.
The REGIOSTARS are awarded to EU-funded projects working towards regional development, identifying good practices in this matter, as the LOCATIONS project.

An independent jury will choose up to 5 finalists per category, to be announced on 9 July.

You can support LOCATIONS with your vote here. Your vote will be added to the public choice, which will be presented at the awards ceremony in October 2019.
The public choice award will count the votes casted after the 9 July, as further occasion for the finalists competing for the REGIOSTARS 2019.

Breakfast Debate by MED Urban Transports Community // Brussels 21 March 2019

The adoption of alternative mobility solutions, as those tested and investigated by the partners of MOBILITAS - an Interreg MED project of the thematic community on Urban Transports, highlighted that a stronger support from the policy makers is needed. As summarised by the GO SUMP project, the adoption of alternative mobility solutions not only necessitate economic support but the projects and the initiative that drive those solutions require a multi-level and multi-stakeholders approach. The adoption of an integrated framework combining different measures ranging from governance, ICTs, to sensibilisation and communication would be more than beneficial.

Nexus Circular Economy - Mobility - Islands: some insights of the CIrClE SMiLe Conference on 28-29 March 2019


A holistic approach encompassing circular economy, mobility and islands has been promoted in a conference in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 28-29 March, co-organised by the MED Urban Transports Community, whose Tech Camp on ICT Tools took place the day before.

The circular economy is a new business model on which we need to focus, it is an important thematic priority” stated Mrs Hatziyianni, Director of Environment and Spatial Planning at the Region of Crete, Greece, on the occasion of the International Conference CirClE2019 "Challenges for the Islands in the era of the Circular Economy" and SMile 2019 “6th Sustainable Mobility and Intelligent Transport Conference”.

Circular Economy & Sustainable Mobility in Islands: the increasing need for a holistic and integrated approach in the Mediterranean


On 28-29 March 2019, in Nicosia, Cyprus, the MED Urban Transports Community co-organised two conferences on circular economy and sustainable mobility. The event has been an occasion to gain valuable insights to improve sustainable urban mobility in the Mediterranean and share the outputs of the projects.

“Sustainable mobility is perfectly suited to serve the real needs of citizens, while saving resources and boosting the economy” said Mrs. Anastasiadou, Minister of Transport Communications and Work of Cyprus, in the opening speech to the International Conference CirClE2019 "Challenges for the Islands in the era of the Circular Economy" and SMile 2019 “6th Sustainable Mobility and Intelligent Transport Conference”, organized by her Ministry under the auspices of the Directorate-General for Environment (DGENV) and the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DGMOVE). It was held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on the 28-29 March 2019.

"The specific challenges in the field of mobility involve citizens’ health, environmental pollution, safety, congestion, the demand to the research and innovation sector to keep boosting the development of decarbonisation and clean vehicles, as well as the digitalised, connected and automated mobility” highlighted DG RTD - Directorate General for Research & Innovation - Directorate Transport, during the workshop ‘From Horizon 2020 to Horizon Europe: Which opportunities for research in the Mediterranean region’ of the 4^ edition of the UNIMED Week in Brussels on March 20th, 2019.

The MED Urban Transports Community is one of the thematic communities of the EU Interreg MED Programme. The Community currently gathers seve projects working towards achieving tailor-made sustainable urban mobility plans and solutions in the Mediterranean area. The MED Urban Transports Community is supported and animated by the GO SUMP project.

The GO SUMP partnership is composed of Malaga Council, RDA Green Karst, EUROCITIES, BIC Euronova, MEDCITIES, CODATU and UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union, which aims at improving the visibility and the communication reach of the projects of the community, to create synergies among them and to capitalise and mainstream their results. Using a bottom-up and a top-down approach among the Community projects and relevant policy-makers and interest groups, GO SUMP acts as a bridge enhancing dialogue, promoting the transfer of knowledge and amplifying the impact of the projects of the community.
