Department Highlights
Registry for Brain Health enlists North Carolinians into the campaign to understand, treat, and prevent memory disorders
More than 200 memory disorder researchers, community stakeholders for Alzheimer’s disease and aging care, and members of the public gathered in Asheville to mark the launch of the North Carolina Registry for Brain Health. This registry will allow the people of North Carolina to play a greater role in research about how how to manage, treat, and prevent Alzheimer's disease and related conditions. Read more.


Join the Longest Ride to help people with Alzheimer's on June 22
Join the Alzheimer's disease research center's Henry Edmonds, MEd, Brenda Plassman, PhD, and dozens of others to enjoy the outdoors and raise money to support programs and services for people living with Alzheimer's disease on Saturday, June 22. The team Blue Wave and other groups will bicycle a 30- and a 54-mile course near Raleigh with a goal of raising $40,000. Join their teams, or make a tax-deductible donation here.
 
Klotman, Badea, Sokol, Kang and others speak this week
Chief Resident Jennifer Kang, MD, presents Grand Rounds this week. Meanwhile Wayne State's Sokol Todi, PhD, will lead a DCNN seminar, Alexandra Badea, PhD, will discuss her ongoing research over pizza and Dean Mary Klotman, MD, gives her annual State of the School address this Wednesday evening. Grand rounds for palliative care and psychiatry are also scheduled for their usual time. Read the Calendar of Events section below for more details.
 
Student Spotlight

Aaliyah Bowden
Just a few weeks into her internship at the Duke Neurology Department, Aaliyah Bowden is already  deeply immersed in neurology, having interviewed researchers, copyedited dozens of pages of documents, and researched neuromuscular diseases and other conditions. For our next “Spotlight” interview, the rising junior discusses her time at the Department so far,  how her interests in health policy and public health complement her interests in communication, and her plans for the future. Read more.
