CAMERA Hosts Ptycho Developers Workshop

The 2019 Ptycho Developers Workshop held at Berkeley Lab June 3-5 attracted 60 participants from five continents. Ptychography is an x-ray technique that resolves features at one billionth of a meter. It has "grown in the last years into a diverse landscape of methods to address ever more complex systems," said Stefano Marchesini, a staff scientist in CAMERA and chair of the workshop. This was one of a series of CAMERA workshops that bring together broad communities of algorithm developers, software engineers, and beamline scientists to advance imaging.

Sign Up for June 24 Mentoring Workshops

Two new mentoring workshops for Computing Sciences staff are scheduled for Monday, June 24. The highly interactive workshops will be led by COACh founder, Geri Richmond. Any CS Area employee may request to attend, however, participants in the CS Mentoring Program will be given priority. Attendance is limited to 20 per session

Mentoring I
For mentors: Learn how to approach being a mentor and improve the success of a mentoring relationship. (9:30–11:30 a.m.)
Mentoring II
For proteges: Learn how to improve the success of a mentoring relationship from the role of the protege. (12–2 p.m. brown bag presentation)

Scott Mason

Scott Mason Retires

Scott Mason will retire on June 27 after 20 years with ESnet. Mason came to the Lab from a career as a deep sea diver, first in the military, later in the petroleum industry. He later trained in IT and had his first ever job interview at ESnet.

Shalf on the Post-Moore Computing World

As he prepared to head to ISC19 in Frankfurt, Germany to give a keynote address on the topic, John Shalf shared his thoughts on what the future holds for computing technologies and architectures in the era beyond exascale.

Molecular Foundry and CS Area Hold Collaborative Summit

The Molecular Foundry and the CS Area held a first-of-its-kind joint summit on Monday, June 7 to encourage partnership, further collaborations, and provide opportunities for networking.

Register by June 30 for Big Data Summit 2019

NERSC's Big Data Summit 2019 will be held in Wang Hall on July 9. Free and open to the public (registration required by June 30), the event will feature experts from NERSC, Intel, and invited talks covering data analytics and data management at scale. Contact Zaida McCunney with questions.
