We had a very good meet at Witney, this is an ideal competition for all Academy swimmers. A lot of PBs and first time swims.
Swimmers of the meet were Aaron Syme and Orla McArdle.

Most importantly, our great band of swimmers, who really did us proud
Swimmers of the Meet
Aaron Hamilton & Emma Andrews
Just to remind you all that the County cut off date is Monday 9th December and only times recorded at licensed Meets from April will be accepted. I suggest you ask and listen to your coaches, then be selective aiming for events that the times are reachable. With this in mind, the Summer sessions, are out, if you don’t swim throughout this period you will not have the grounding to compete well in the last 3 months before qualifying.
The 4 Shires Swimming Club Swimmer of the Year is Matthew Edmonds, despite doing half the pool time of his peers from other clubs he qualified for the Regional Championships. Congratulations.
In order to improve and progress, a swimmer when reaching 13/14, should be increasing their pool time. They should also be competing more often and not just on their favourite strokes and distances. This is also the age we look at starting to taper a few sessions before big meets.
At this time of year we say goodbye to our senior swimmers who are off to Uni, see you in the holidays. I’m delighted that Rebecca Hoadley has been made Ladies Captain by the University College London.
This year we have had quite an active set of Captains, I want to thank them all, it has been good to see them helping out at meets. We’re now selecting the next Captains who will be announced in the summer.
A reminder our Club champs are on Sat 12th Oct @ KHS
And finally
For those that have noticed and commented that the coaches are using mobile phones whilst on poolside, these are their own phones and they are updating Swim Manager, attendance, lateness, effort etc as well as being able to contact parents if required.
Despite doing half the pool time of his peers from other clubs Matthew qualified for the Regional Championships. Congratulations.
WELL DONE
A word from our Chair …Simon
Welcome to the June newsletter
We held the club AGM last Wednesday evening and I would like to thank all those members who managed to attend. For those that could not attend the meeting I have detailed out my Chairs report for 2018-19.
At the meeting three of our longstanding committee members Cerina Hawtin, Zoe Wakefield and Philippa Upton stepped down from their positions and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their outstanding dedicated service to 4 shires swimming club over the past few years, they have all been a key part in the development of the club into what we are today.
I hope to have the new committee fully resourced by the end of this week and will confirm the new committee structure in the next newsletter.
Chairman report 2018-19
I am pleased to report a positive year for 4 shires swimming club, we are in a stable financial position as you will see from the treasurers report to follow while we have continued to develop systems and strategies to ensure the club continues to develop in the future.
Some of the developments we have introduced over the past 12 months include
New committee position of Swimmer development officer to focus on ensuring we maintain and grow our links with local schools & swimming teachers, oversee the club PDP programme as well as our DOE, GCSE and young volunteer activities.
Introduced a Personal Development programme available to all swimmers
Introduced a Pre-season club meeting for parents and swimmers
Re-vamped trials to now include a presentation for new parents
We have run two licensed club championship days
Re-vamped our offer for Masters swimmers making it more competitive against available options from other local clubs.
Introduced a New associate membership category designed to target our older swimmers who go to university but would like to remain part of the club and train when they are home.
Gone through a full SwimMark accreditation process
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the club committee and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their full support, time and enthusiasm that they have given over the past 12 months.
I would also like to thank our excellent team of coaches for all of there continued hard work and dedication in developing our swimmers to reach their maximin potential.
We are going into to a period of change within the club as some of our longstanding committee members move on, which now creates opportunities for new members to step forward and fill the committee vacancies available to ensure that we continue to drive the club forward.
2018-19 has been a positive season for 4 shires swimming club both inside and outside of the pool and I look forward to being involved in helping to create and even better 2019-2020 season.
