Happy Friday. It's a shorter newsletter today. Don't worry, still got some spankin' new remote UX jobs towards the end. I may or may not release a newsletter next week in observance of July 4th (independence day in 'Murica). Have a great weekend! - Oz

📑NEW UX ARTICLE

How a "lean" UX job hunt can help you nab your first job (article link)Have you ever been stuck, hit a wall, made no progress...because not everything was perfectly aligned? In my opinion, the best tool for designers to fight perfection is something we can borrow from our own (tech) backyard - the popular Lean Startup methodology.

By building a build-measure-learn loop, new UXers can start gaining momentum by experimenting and releasing something into the wild - rather than waiting for perfection.

Read this article on the Springboard blog. It's my first content collaboration with them!

💩BAD UX EXAMPLE
When an app takes up too much Headspace
Let me start by saying that I love Headspace and how it's popularized meditation. I try to use it at least a few times a week to find my center and ward off FOMO.

But one thing annoys the heck out of me:

Even when you've already downloaded a longer meditation (10 minutes), if you shift down to a shorter meditation, you have to re-download. It's the exact same content; the only difference is adding more silence to the longer sessions. This may be just a lack of tech right now. Or maybe I should learn to be more patient ;)

💎UX TOOL
Stubborn.fun
First, I didn't know that ".fun" was a legit domain. Second, this is a neat design tool that allows you to mix characters and environments to create illustrative scenes for scenarios that fit your project.

I'd be down for paying for a more robust tool like this with more scenes and customizations. Luckily, this post covers a ton of other great free illustration tools.

Remote UX Jobs 💼

BVAccel is the an agency that focuses on eCommerce brands. While they're based in sunny San Diego, they have a remote UX Designer position open for someone mid to senior level. I love that one of their bullet points is someone who has "A low ego and high sense of humor." P.S. BVAccel stands for "business value accelerator."

Kaplan the test prep giant is on the lookout again for a remote UX Designer to join their DesignOps team, which is on a mission to scale (good) learning experiences.

Lighthouse Global helps legal & compliance teams manage their enterprise data - sounds like something Equifax and a lot of other companies need. They need a Senior UX Researcher and Designer who's comfortable in client-facing situations.

iFunded.de is a German real estate platform looking for a remote UX Designer to work anywhere in the European timezone. This role requires front end development skills; and you'd need to turn designs into HTML & CSS.

Netdata has a Senior UX role to join their distributed engineering team.
