Groups

The month of June is a busy one in most outdoor centres that cater for school residentials and Min y Don is no different. It’s been wall-to-wall groups with eight different primary schools here enjoying that post SATs time away together. As one school leaves another arrives and there are minutes between groups instead of the usual few hours.

Our Staff Team are doing a great job. They deserve much credit for their efforts and their cheerful, ‘extra-mile’ attitude says much about their desire to serve and bless all those who come here. The freedom we have to openly share our faith is something many Christians would long for, and this month has seen more guests than ever hear about the good news of Jesus; something we regard as a privilege not to be taken for granted.

As we move into July and the end of the School term and the start of family weeks, we establish a slightly less manic pattern as we move from one group to the next. It’s only a little less manic though so we’d appreciate your prayers as we move on into the summer family holiday part of the year.

Team

More additional crew members (Summer Team) arrived this month to supplement our staffing. Aside from the fact that a number of our long-term team are involved with taking local youth away to various camps, the intensity of the bookings means that adding some extra team members to the squad helps us enormously.

Ben began here at the end of last month and he’s here until the end of July. At the beginning of this month he, and the rest of us, were joined by Jasper and Francesca. It’s really great to have them on board for the summer.

We’re missing Abi as she has now moved on to begin her new career in Cumbria as a paramedic and we are now missing Clara, though not for the same reason...

Sadly Clara has broken her ankle. You’ll no doubt be surprised to know that this happened during an archery session, and no, it was nothing to do with dodging arrows! A fall during a game between rounds has put Clara out of action for the foreseeable future, so please pray for her that she gets well very soon and has the patience & acceptance she needs as she was very much looking forward to the work that we do here during these particular months of the year.

Local Youth Work

Aside from the usual weekly meetings with local youngsters we are gearing up for summer camps and again it looks like we’ll be taking more youngsters than ever away to three different Christian camps.

To help assist the funding required we engage in all manner of crazy things and this weekend sees us involved in the ever-popular ‘call-a-cupcake’ where in response to a phone order, we (that is youth leaders and youth) then set out to deliver the cupcake of your choice right to your door.

I know, I’ve got your hopes up now but I have to break the news that we only deliver in the Tywyn area, so if you’re reading this in Aberdeen (or anywhere other than Tywyn), I’m afraid we’re not coming. You can send a donation though if you like!

So there you are – we thank you for your prayers and messages of support. Whilst it may be ‘full on’ with guests in and out of the place in rapid succession, we don’t lose sight of the fact that we’re essentially involved in mission work with a mission field coming in and out of here every single week.

As we’ve said, it’s a privilege to share good news and we aim to tell more and more people every year about the friendship then can have with their Lord & Savour, Jesus Christ.

Earlier this month a couple came to visit us who were last here about fifty years ago (you’d be surprised how often this happens here). She had come here with one group and he with another, and this was where they met. Not only did they meet here but fifty years after hearing about Jesus, they are still going on with Him. Coming back to reminisce and give thanks was not just an encouragement to them, but to all of us all as we carry on in the work.

Andfinally this month

  • A combination of a breakdown in the vacuum cleaner department and a carpet full of squashed Jacob’s cream crackers caused consternation at youth club.
  • Chris, Susie and Pete had a night out dressed as Lance Corporal Jones, Mavis Pike and Private Frazer in a Dad’s Army themed Murder Mystery. Frazer’s coffin lid prop was an ‘interesting’ feature of the Min y Don Office for a while.
  • Pete learnt the hard way that tennis is best played with tennis balls and not stones.

Thank you once again – we look forward to being back in touch in a month’s time.

With love from Susie & Pete
and all the team here at Min y Don
