Exhibition at Hazelhurst Arts Centre, NSW

Pmarra Nurna-kanhala Untha-lapp-urma: Walking Through Country is the most comprehensive exhibition of watercolours from Iltja Ntjarra Many Hands Art Centre ever presented in NSW! It features new etchings and unique state monoprints created in collaboration with Cicada Press at UNSW Art & Design, as well as new works expressing powerful political and social statements. 

As an important member of the art centre and artists I have the opportunity to be the voice and continue to make an impact in the continuance of the watercolour tradition through supporting and providing information for everyone to acknowledge. It is vital that the works can be showcased for the public to see and appreciate the land we live on and continue to protect our country.

Benita Clements and Mervyn Rubuntja present a selection of watercolours that recreate landscapes and respond to structural and cultural changes since white settlement. These bright landscapes are testament to tradition, as well the artists’ own experiences of life in Mparntwe and its ever-changing nature. In the style of the ‘Hermannsburg School’ and their forebear Albert Namatjira, Clements and Rubuntja use the medium of watercolour to preserve intergenerational knowledge and histories, in their own distinct styles. 

Join us for the opening of land/place, where our friends Ken McGregor and Ruth Ellis will lead an open discussion, drawing on Benita Clements and Mervyn Rubuntja's works and the speakers’ own expertise. Come along for a drink and fascinating discussion.

The Black Markets this weekend, Sydney

We will come together with other Indigenous artists from around Australia for the National Indigenous Art Fair – a two day art market and program of events in celebration of NAIDOC Week at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay on 29 & 30 June 2019.

The National Indigenous Art Fair is an ethical marketplace, offering a unique opportunity to buy artwork directly from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from 30 remote community owned art centres from the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. We will have a huge selection of paintings AND Benita Clements will be demonstrating her painting skills as well! Come down if you're Sydney!

Iltja Ntjarra at Watch this SPACE, Alice Springs

Monumental in a small-town way is a collection of visual responses that are generated as a participatory public engagement initiative. The participatory element emphasises and encourages collaboration between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists and creative commentators who are local to Alice Springs, or from elsewhere. Exhibited together, the collection provides a wider perspective on how this public audience has perceived the public art monument installed in a park in Alice Springs to honour the imperial achievements of Scottish explorer John McDouell Stuart as the first white man to explore central Australia in the middle of the 19th century.
