New Sport in Mind activities
Our partners Sport in Mind have started to use the Sport England investment they have secured to set up new weekly activities in Buckinghamshire. The activities are open to anyone over the age of 18yrs experiencing mental health problems. The new sessions include Football, Table Tennis and Badminton in Aylesbury to add to the weekly Pilates and Football already taking place in the High Wycombe area.
All the Sport in Mind sessions can be found here
Please contact Sport in Mind if you’d like to explore establishing further weekly sessions with them.
The contribution of active travel
Sport England’s new research provides an authoritative account of how, and how best, active travel can support physical activity. Carried out by an independent team led by Sustrans, in partnership with Dr Nick Cavill and Prof Adrian Davis, it assesses the current and potential contribution of active travel to overall physical activity levels. It also reviews the effectiveness of many types of active travel interventions at increasing walking, cycling or physical activity.

Bringing partners together to tackle childhood inactivity
Last week our partner forum saw nearly 50 partners attend and discuss how we can work together to encourage more young people to live active lifestyles, now and in the future. Expert presenters stimulated productive conversations and initial feedback from the event showed attendees found it informative, positive and inspiring.
You can view the presentations from the day and delegate list here.
Campaign aims to change perceptions of activity for those with long term health conditions
Sport England and the Richmond Group of charities have come together to develop a major, new national behaviour change campaign, to inspire and support inactive people with long term conditions to get active.

Involving charities such as Age UK, Stroke Association, British Heart Foundation and Rethink Mental Illness, the initial six week campaign will launch in September but is anticipated to be the beginning of a longer term plan to raise the profile and importance of physical activity among this group.

You can watch a webinar which explains more about the campaign here.

We’ll be sharing more about the campaign as we hear it, but we’d love to know how you’d like to be involved.
Let us know how you’ll be getting involved.
