It was a privilege to attend our Foundation Assembly this week. They told us how we can save our planet and look forward to a better future together by making small adjustments to our lives. Their presentation was outstanding and very uplifting for us all. The children were so impressive and brought a great deal of joy to us all last Tuesday morning. Well done all.
Congratulations to all those who took part in yesterday's sports day. Inspite of the cool temperature it was wonderful to see our children, enjoying a healthy day together, having fun, being competitive, and working hard to collect points for their house. Congratulations Brownlow, the winning house yesterday.
Thank you parents for your support yesterday.
Enjoy the weekend and finally the sunshine!
Kind regards
Mrs K.A Korcz

LAST DAY OF TERM
Inter - House Music Festival
Thursday 4th July 2019
Just a reminder that the annual house music competition will take place on Thursday 4th July. I have received a lot of entries so far but if you still want to take part please come and see me for an entry form. It is a wonderful chance for you to showcase your amazing musical talents.
Pre-School have been busy refurbishing the outside bug hotel in a bid to entice bugs to take residence. The children used some lovely soft moss, twigs, rocks and cardboard tubes to add to the existing shelter. The children really enjoyed foraging and digging for the natural materials. We discussed what bugs might want to stay in the hotel and the main consensus was they would be 'small and pretty ones'. Well done Pre school!

Save the World
It was great to see so many parents and friends at our whole school assembly on Tuesday 25th June 2019 'Save the World'. The children had a really important message to give everyone about looking after our planet, which they all take really seriously. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to showcase their many talents in front of an audience that were truly engaged. Many were very moved by what all the performers had to say. The children were all amazing and we are very proud of them as I am sure all the parents are too. It was a pleasure to watch them ‘perform’ and display such marvellous confidence.
Once again thank you to all the parents and friends who came to watch and who also provided the lovely costumes. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as the children did performing it. It is hard to believe how young the children are to be so confident and for them to remember both their lines and the words to the nine songs as well as all the actions! Once again well done to all the children and the adults that helped during the performance.
As part of their Geography studies, Class One have been learning about different kinds of weather and the yearly cycle of seasons. The children have been creating some beautiful artwork and composing seasonal poems. The vocabulary used by class members for each special time in the calendar was exceptional and everyone has written down their ideas neatly. The work will be on display in the school foyer, so please take a few moments to admire the children's hard work. Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter and whatever the weather, Class One, you are all superstars. Well done.
Mrs Cozens is a fantastic teacher and the children love her lessons as they inspire, encourage and provide them with an indepth understanding of rhythm and pulse.
This week the children were learning about percussion. Their task was to create a piece of music to accompany a choral verse. Everyone in the class performed fantastically and took an independent role to their learning. The students had to organise and manage the task themselves (for example choosing their own instruments and creating their own beats).
Thank you Mrs Cozens for providing the children with a brilliantly musical education.
This year class three, four and five have been working on a project based on the title ‘We all Swim Together’. It has involved using clay to create fish shapes of different forms, with added texture and pattern. The children showed originality in their designs and a clear enjoyment of this challenge. All the clay shapes will soon be ready for a biscuit fire before being glazed in vibrant colours. Watch this space!
A window in the horrible weather this week was all we needed to get our Sportsday 2019 completed. At 06.30hrs it was not looking hopeful despite the weather forecasters assurances that the day would be fine. Hurdles had to be cancelled, Sprints were under threat and even the Mums and Dads races were off the programme. The decision to carry on was taken and the early risers who had set up the course relieved. What followed was a fantastic display of sportsmanship, competitiveness and fun from all our children from the Nursery groups right up to the senior Juniors. Despite the indifferent weather 7 records were broken. Early Years Overhead throw, Christopher; U7 Boys Javelin, Gabriel; U7 Boys Triple Jump, Taseen; U7 Girls Triple Jump, Julia; U9 Girls Triple Jump, Phoebe J; U11 Boys Triple Jump, Tom; U11 Girls Triple Jump, Olivia.
Congratulations to Georgina and Elijah who proved themselves to be the fastest girl and boy this year and well done to Brownlow House for making it six in a row!!!
Many thanks to all parents, grandparents and friends for supporting the event so well and congratulations to all those adults who entered the final races making it all a very special day for the children.
The wonderful musicians at Grantham Prep continue to impress and perform. For the assembly last Friday, Mr Giles once again presented the fantastic school band.
The band is going from strength to strength musically and plays at a very high standard for the age of the students.
The program consisted of music of varying styles and genres.
Iniya and Olivia performed The ABBA classic Mamma mia, as a beautiful duet. They really are lovely players.
There was also rock and pop tunes such as Another one bites the dust and Happy and the blues tunes Jammin’ with Charlie and Green Onions, which featured a number of musicians taking improvised solos.
Over the last year Mr Giles has been motivating and encouraging some of his students to have the confidence to understand and try improvisation. The results have been incredibly positive and something that Mr Giles is keen to take further in the future. During Jammin' with Charlie, the featured soloists were Tozi and Yuvan. During Green Onions Yuvan took another solo and Tom and Josh did a Sax and drum feature which was really exciting.
The band finished off with the theme tune to Pirates of The Caribbean and Tequila which totally raised the roof.
All of the students love to play in the band and as a school we are very proud indeed to have such a fantastic asset.
Unfortunately, as the year comes to a close, we will be losing the Year 6 members of the band but this gives opportunities for younger players who are thinking of starting an instrument.
So if your child would like to join the band, Mr Giles would love you to get in touch. We have vacancies for Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet and drums.
The next time the band will perform will be on speech day. We look forward to seeing you then.

Whoop, Whoop!!!!!!!!
Nearing the end of our adventure, leaving behind memories of "Letrilandia", Paco the fish and Tommy Tomato. Guided by the Infant school team, the 6th Year Infants have ridden the rapids and approach Primary. The experiences they have had and knowledge gleaned from these three years will, we are sure, stand them in good stead for their first year upstairs in Primary.
We wish them the best of luck!

Year 4 get BUZZED
This week, in Year 4, we have been learning about coffee! We have been thinking about how we get our food in different ways so Mrs Stout, who runs her own coffee company, has taken us on the journey that every coffee bean goes on before we put it in a cup and drink it. We have learnt about where coffee comes from and how it is transported, we then visited Mrs Stout’s roasting room where we roasted green beans before grinding them back in the classroom.
Our lucky parents have all been given a bag of our very own Year 4 coffee blend; a mixture of ‘Ethiopian’, ‘Rwandan’ and Felix’s favourite ‘Brazilian’ beans!
Thank you so much to Mrs Stout for sharing her passion and giving us such a valuable learning experience.
If you are selecting your child's lunches on a weekly basis, it must be done by midnight Thursday of the previous week. Once you have made your choices, unfortunately, you are unable to change them.
