Good Afternoon,

Yes, I realize it’s summer and I’m sending you a newsletter and blog about note taking.   No, I haven’t lost my mind.  Many adults are back in school and I know plenty of college students taking summer courses.  So hopefully, this will come in handy for some of you!

I’m sure that, throughout your time in school, you were told that one key to good grades is taking great study notes. And I'm willing to bet your children have been taught the same. Yes, taking good notes can mean the difference between a passing or failing grade, and making sure that your kids understand that is important. It can also even help create a positive foundation in their careers later in life.  I can assure you that taking accurate notes that I can use at a later date is critical to my ability to even do my job!  It has been said in both medicine and psychology – if you didn’t write it down, it didn’t happen.

But are we teaching our children how to take good notes? Do they understand why this is so important?

Unfortunately, many children aren’t taught the correct way (or even an effective way for themselves) to prepare for tests and projects by way of solid note-taking. And while students may understand the material, not knowing how to create great notes can bring on negative feelings such as anxiety.

So, what can we do to solve this problem?

In this week’s blog, "Jotting it Down: How You Can Make Your Note-Taking Skills Stronger," I’ll discuss the benefits of great note-taking and the many ways you can help strengthen your child’s note-taking abilities.
