Articles
  • Bringing a Tent Peg to a Sword Fight – Andrew Wilson, Christianity Today – We ought to know that we are to put our trust in the Lord rather than in military might. But when God does use earthly means to deliver his people, what does he use? It’s not the army!
  • Republicans Don’t Understand Democrats — And Democrats Don’t Understand Republicans – Yascha Mounk, The Atlantic – Americans are more passionate about their dislike of the other party than they are about their own, and their understanding of what their political opponents believe is a gross exaggeration. Though ignorance and caricature may go hand-in-hand, formal education only makes this problem worse. This article has no solutions.

  • Enter Paul: On Paula Fredriksen’s “Paul: The Pagans’ Apostle” and “When Christians Were Jews” – Brad East, Los Angeles Review of Books – The influence of St. Paul the Apostle on history and theology is difficult to overstate, resulting in a near-infinite sea of scholarship about him, his works, and his legacy. That scholarship, at times, may have failed to adequately place the man in his proper cultural and historical context of first century Judaism, leading to misunderstandings, missed connections, and antisemitism. This review lays it all out, as Fredriksen presents it, with some critique.

  • Book Review: My Father Left Me Ireland by Michael Brendan Dougherty – Hannah Anderson, Mere Orthodoxy – Some aspects of our identities, such as family or nationality, are given and inescapable, but modern individualism imagines a liberation from these restrictions, which it replaces with shallow "chosen" identity markers. Furthermore, this severance has a cascading effect, atomizing not only those who liberate themselves, but those around them as well. Is there a path back to rootedness for those cut off in this way?
