Owens Estate & Wealth Strategies Group held their annual Community Shred Day in May. We're so grateful for their generosity. Year after year they provide a great service for the community by allowing folks to come shred their documents and give us 100% of the proceeds. Thanks again, Owens!

IFM'S BON VOYAGE TO HUNGER GALA

The Interfaith Food Ministry 2019 Gala held on May 18th was a success on many levels, thanks to the excellent group of volunteers and community supporters who contributed their time, energy, talents, and funding to our event. All proceeds will go toward serving food insecure residents of Nevada County.
A special thanks to Stifel Financial Corp, The Rudisal Family, Samba Lua Brazilain Dance & Drum Company, REMAX Performance, Robin Hart/ Starbird Graphics, Jerry Martini and Jason with photography, Kwong Chew catering and his crew, the Gala Committee, IFM volunteers, Kate Laferriere for her hard work in coordinating this event. Finally, to our community who attended the gala; your support means everything. We loved all the happy faces. Thank you!

FILL THE TRUCK WITH GROCERY OUTLET

We want to give a big thanks to Grocery Outlet for their continued support with Fill the Truck. Also, thanks to all the volunteers who showed up to collect food and monetary donations right outside of Grocery Outlet's doors. We do want to remind everyone that sharing these food/fund raisers with your community is very important to the success of our efforts. We were not able to pass out flyers to customers, so word of mouth is going to go a long way going forward. Also, please share to your online networks like Facebook or Nextdoor.

FEED THE NEED WITH SAFEWAY
|
|
 We just wrapped up our June food drive with Safeway- Feed the Need, which
is part of their national Bag Summer Hunger campaign. In the past volunteers
have been allowed to have a presence in stores and speak with shoppers about
IFM. Unfortunately, this year volunteers were not allowed to set up in stores or
at entrances. We must adapt to such changes by sharing all food drives by
word of mouth and social media. In addition, we will be printing more flyers
that you can distribute to your communities. We have more food drives coming

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON & THANKING KATE LAFERRIERE

IFM's volunteer appreciation luncheon was held in June. We celebrated our volunteers with a 50's themed party to honor the best of the best who make what we do possible. Not all of our 400+ volunteers where able to make it to the luncheon. However, those who did included a fabulous group whose been with IFM for 10, 20, and 35 years! A special thanks to Peace Lutheran in Grass Valley, CA. for sharing their beautiful church to have our luncheon and their gracious staff who was also on hand.
Volunteers had a chance to thank Kate Laferriere, IFM's Development Director of more than 3 years, for her dedication and excellence. We wish her the very best and look forward to her future involvement; she will continue to volunteer at IFM. Her mark on Interfaith Food Ministry will not be forgotten.

Gardeners - The Garden Gals are thrilled to be gardening again. However, they need help. Novice and experienced gardeners are welcome. The IFM garden produces well over 3,000 pounds of fresh vegetables for our clients. The Team works in the Lake Wildwood garden approximately 2 mornings a week (usually Tuesday or Friday). Client Area Volunteers including Receptionists and Interviewers - are needed. New volunteers receive one-on-one training and then have opportunities to shadow others. There are two Receptionists, three interviewers and two Supervisors for each food distribution day (Mon/Wed/Fri) and we ask that each trained person commit to doing at least TWO shifts per month. Shifts last from 9:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Interested volunteers should contact Anna Gloria at 530-277-2920 or agloria.ag@att.net.
Assistant Food Buyer – Mr. Ray Moore has been IFM’s Food Buyer for many years (and he plans to continue to do so for the foreseeable future). However, with IFM’s recent efforts to procure more locally produced food items, we are in need of another volunteer to help lead this effort. The Assistant Food Buyer will work closely with Ray, Phil and the Food Committee and will communicate with local farmers/producers to process orders. Drivers - IFM volunteer drivers are making rounds to grocery stores and bakeries/cafes to pick up donated food items and bring them back to IFM. Training and ride-alongs are provided. We ask each driver to commit to 2 shifts per month. Interested volunteers should contact John Bradford at 530-751-6242 or jtup1@aol.com.
Cal Fresh Assistants – We would like to create a team of 2-3 Cal Fresh “Assistants.” Cal Fresh (formerly known as the Food Stamp program) is funded by the Federal Government through the US Dept of Agriculture. Since it is a great way to bring in Federal resources directly to our low-income neighbors, Nevada County contracts with local Non-Profits who interact with low-income residents to help screen clients for eligibility and then help them complete the first few steps of the application, before handing the client over to County staff for them to complete the rest of the process.
IFM accomplishes this in a 3-step process.
- During food distribution, Steve tells our clients about Cal Fresh and answers basic questions. Interested clients give Steve their name and phone number, which he hands off to the “Assistants.”
- The Cal Fresh Assistants will then follow-up with phone calls to ask the first set of screening questions to determine if the household is eligible to move forward in the process.
- If they are eligible to move forward, then the Assistants pass the contact info along to Connie (a long-time volunteer) and she assists the client with starting an online Cal Fresh application. Then County staff take it from there.

Volunteer Recruitment & Coordination Team – We’d like to put together a team of 3-5 volunteers who will work closely with Phil Alonso and a few other volunteers in order to enhance our Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination efforts.
- The “Recruitment” part of the job consists of helping potential volunteers who are NOT affiliated with one of IFM’s member congregations get introduced to IFM, explain the different positions and help start the application process to get them onto a regular schedule. There will also be opportunities to present to different community groups to inform them about volunteer opportunities with IFM.
- The “Coordination” part of the job consists of managing the list of “Packing/Sorting” volunteers who work at IFM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

IFM Tours & Open House Committee - We're putting together an IFM Tours and Open House program which will be held every other month (or quarterly). Committee would be responsible for giving group tours of IFM facilities and operations, as well as providing volunteer applicants with information and some training in specific positions and departments, during Open House events. INDEPENDENCE FROM HUNGER WITH GROCERY OUTLET
Please support our July food drive with Grocery Outlet: Independence from Hunger
- WHO- Let your friends, family, co-worker and communities know that Interfaith Food Ministry and Grocery Outlet are holding a food drive, Independence from Hunger.
- WHAT- Grocery Outlet will hold a food drive by matching your $5 (or more) donation with a shipment of nutritious food.
- WHERE- Grocery Outlet at 616 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, CA 95945
- WHEN- July 1st through July 31st, 2019
- HOW- Go into Grocery Outlet and donate a minimum of $5 at the check-out stand. Grocery Outlet does the rest by matching the proceeds with a shipment of food for IFM. We'll be distributing flyers. Contact Naomi at naomidd.ifm@gmail.com if you're interested in picking some up.
- WHY- There are approximately 12,000 food insecure adults and children in Nevada County who need our help.

HUNGER RUN 2019 AT ALTA SIERRA COUNTRY CLUB
We've confirmed IFM's Hunger Run for 2019 will be held at Alta Sierra Country Club!
- WHO- Everyone! Especially runners, joggers, walkers, athletes, and anyone who cares about their community. Please share this news far and wide.
- WHAT- IFM will host the official Gold Country Grand Prix Hunger Run Fundraiser with a 5 K Run and a 2.1 Mile Family Walk.
- WHERE- Alta Sierra Country Club 11897 Tammy Way, Grass Valley, CA 95949
- WHEN- Sunday, September 29th, 2019.
- HOW- Registration is now open for all adults and children. Organizations, clubs, and schools are encouraged to participate. Register by emailing naomidd.ifm@gmail.com.

- WHY- All proceeds from the Hunger Run will go to IFM’s Holiday Food Program.
