Another month packed with activity at MNC
This year the MNC Knitfest group will once again take part in the annual display in the Maleny main street. Keep your eye out for our fantastic contributions to this fun display. July also sees the introduction of the Maleny Young Women's Group for high school girls aged 12-18 here at the Centre. We are seeking donors for this worthwhile initiative.
And our garden continues to flourish with the constant input from volunteers. Veggies grown in the garden make a significant contribution to our Thursday lunches and emergency relief program. Anyone is welcome to join.

For girls 12-18 years attending high school. The group has already provided some amazing outcomes for participants, with positive feedback from parents, school nurse and participants.
MNC would like to keep running this significant program for our local young women but desperately need funding. It would take 10 donors donating $1000 each per annum, to keep the program running for 1 year during school terms. Anyone wishing to donate to this worthwhile program please contact Nooreen Harris on (07) 5499 9345. All donations are tax deductible... Read in full

REPORT: GARDEN AND BUILDING GROUP
|
|
The recent working bee was still undertaken by some hearty souls despite some heavy rain. Chris is doing a fantastic job with the lawns and gardens during his weekly Newstart hours. It is a delight to come to the MNC and be greeted by a tidy and well maintained area.
Each garden is being fitted with a timber edging. We plan to clear the area along the MNC side of the drain at the back of the property to provide easier maintenance and a delightful area to quietly wander and meditate – flowing water and waterlilies. The area ‘over the fence’ will be opened up for peaceful contemplation and enjoyment.
The shelter is being converted into a secure storage area. To help fit this area out, would anyone with unwanted heavy shelves donate hem to MNC. Heavy duty pallets are also needed. And more gardeners are sought to assist with the production of more vegetables. Get your Blue Card and give some time for this worthy cause... Read in full

Transition House Project update
Since commencement of operation 5 women and 2 children under 12 have been tenanted at the house. Two tenants have transitioned into their own rental properties – one private and one social housing. All tenants are transition tenants with agreements that enable them to reside in the house for up to 3 months. As part of the new model for the house, all tenants cook and clean all areas of the house themselves and are supported by an MNC volunteer who visits the house on a regular basis.
The Transition House has had a recent makeover with some new furniture and fittings and linen purchased. This was made possible through a donation by Maleny Uniting Church. Local contractor Maleny Hired Hands has been generous with their time and reduced rates in assisting with furniture removal. APEX mows the grass when required, and a MNC volunteer gardener attends to the weeding and general maintenance of the garden. Tenants are encouraged to assist with the garden maintenance and the house is often filled with beautiful flowers from the garden... Read the full update.

MNC traineeship:
Sammerlan Sek-Reid
Each year MNC in collaboration with Maleny Flexi School support a student through a traineeship program. Last year our student was Sammerlan Sek-Reid, who enrolled in Community Services Certificate 3. Sammerlan contributed to the organisation of the 2018 Maleny Youth festival and other MNC events, including assisting at the front desk with emergency relief work.
MNC would like to take this opportunity to thank Sammerlan for her contribution to our organisation, especially to the Youth Festival last year, and wish her every success for her future.

Maleny and Hinterland locals raised $4327 for the North Townsville Community Hub (NOTCH) towards expenses for victims of the Townsville floods. MNC volunteer Frances Harper approached MNC management about the idea which was approved, especially given that we were also assisting another neighbourhood centre.
Most of the clients at NOTCH were in desperate need of food and clothes, as their emergency payments were taking some time to process. By donating cash, NOTCH could purchase extra food items as the need arose.
The MNC management committee would like to thank Frances for taking the lead on this project and ensuring all funds were donated in timely manner.
