We hope that everyone has had a wonderful, mostly smokeless summer!

The RCAC is excited to share this update on everything we have going on!

RCAC's Public Art Committee has been busy this year bringing new sculptures and projects to Rossland! Coming this fall we have two new Public Art pieces joining the community!

Mural

2132 Columbia Ave

Rossland will get a new mural with a theme of peace and commemoration, symbolized by a field of poppies and wildflowers of the local West Kootenay region. The painting will exemplify Canada’s commitment to world peace while commemorating the Rosslanders who gave their lives in service during WWI, WWII and Korea. The mural will provide both an artistic enhancement to the downtown core and educational opportunity in the community of Rossland.

The mural art will be painted on 8 separate 4’x 8’ panels by local mural artist Tyler Toews. The panels will be mounted on the renovated exterior wall of the J. Van der Ham building. The project is expected to take 4 months and will be completed in time for the 2019 Remembrance Day Ceremony.

The RCAC would like to acknowledge the CBT Public Arts Fund, the Nelson District Credit Union Rossland Branch and The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 for their generous donations to this project.

Doing the Can Can Sculpture

Miners' Hall, 1765 Columbia Avenue

The RCAC is commissioning a significant and innovative sculpture for installation outside the newly renovated Miners’ Union Hall. RCAC’s intention is that the sculpture reflects Rossland’s gold mining history, the Hall’s current use as an arts centre, and incorporates both art & sport. Additionally, we wanted a sculpture that celebrated the feminine in order to balance the predominantly masculine monuments and sculptures in the downtown.

The concept is a Can Can dancer on a bike with a miner’s lamp held out front as seen below. This strong fearless woman is doing a  popular dirt jump called the “No Footer Can Can” - something a twenty first century rider would do. A Can Can dancer doing a Can Can jump melds history with the present day and gives extreme motion to metal.

The 2019/20 Performance Seres lineup is here!

Tickets are available online and at Out of the Cellar in Rossland!

Thank you to our generous sponsors!
