Children's Puppetry Workshop

9th July

Sophia Waldorf School is proud to present our first puppetry workshop held by Zsuzsa Nemeth from Hungary. Zsuzsa is a creative drama teacher for children, having 10 years experience on stage as a pantomime performer and more than 25 years in the theatre and film industry in Hungary as a producer and fundraiser.

Zsuzsa is passionate about introducing performing arts, crafts and creative acting for children and she strongly believes creative story telling with paper puppets is not only fun but gives families happy and quality time together, encouraging children to invent their own stories using their endless creativity and imagination.

This workshop is a good opportunity to play and craft together, creating new stories with a group of children and of course parents are welcome to join in also.

Early Childhood

Playgroup is a special place where mothers and children come together and share the experience of being in a community filled with the elements of joy, wonder and learning through the senses.  The morning rhythm arises through the creation of a loving space where song, rhymes, stories and bread-making are experienced together.

Heightened adult consciousness is encouraged enabling one to learn to read the child in their care before them. Parental support of the playgroup ‘leader’ to hold the rhythm of the morning is of value to all as this creates a living example to take home and follow through thus enabling parenting to flow through song, rhymes and stories, this way parents and children experience the joy of meaningful connections.

Employees of Silicon Valley giants send their children to a nine-classroom school without computer technologies

Employees of Silicon Valley giants send their children to school without computer technologies. This is the Waldorf School of the Peninsula. You couldn’t find here screens at all. But you can find pens and paper, knitting needles and, occasionally, mud.

School without computersWhile other schools in the region brag about their wired classrooms, the Waldorf School embraces a simple, retro look — blackboards with colorful chalk, bookshelves with encyclopedias, wooden desks filled with workbooks and pencils.

This school subscribes to a teaching philosophy focused on physical activity and learning through creative, hands-on tasks. The Waldorf method is nearly a century old, but its foothold here among the digerati puts into sharp relief an intensifying debate about the role of computers in education.

Some parents and educators have a message: computers and schools don’t mix. And they absolutely right. Those who endorse this approach say computers inhibit creative thinking, movement, human interaction and attention spans.

Schools nationwide have rushed to supply their classrooms with computers, and many policy makers say it is foolish to do otherwise.  But parents have a different opinion: technology, they say, has its time and place.

But some students of the Waldorf School say they can become frustrated when their parents and relatives get so wrapped up in phones and other devices.
“Child of the pure, unclouded brow
And dreaming eyes of wonder!...
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy tale.”
~Lewis Carroll
