They're forecasting a gorgeous weekend to celebrate the founding of our country on July 1, 1867. Just 152 years young, Canada is a glory of nature, multiculturalism, and adventurous people. Canadians are open-minded (mostly), and outdoorsy (sometimes), and always up for fun, especially the kids at Buddings!
So this weekend (while Buddings is closed), we're inviting you to take an adventure, post a pic, and win a prize... for another adventure!
Plus, our summer party on July 21 has a 100lb. food pouch challenge, and some info to share about global recycling policies. And a DJ! Contests! GIANT BUBBLES! And a whole lotta fun in the sun! Thanks to our partnership with Green Coast Rubbish, we'll even be granting some of your recycling wishes - like a place to take those batteries, light bulbs, and household recyclables you can't take to the curb.
The summer has just begun, and it's going to be a hot one! We're pleased to present our Extra Safe sunscreen policy, along with all the Extra Safe rules, in a new, easy-to-find poster, up at both centres, posted online, and below, for your downloading pleasure. :)
It's the long weekend! Sunscreen up, keep the planet in mind, and enjoy your country! We're so lucky to live here.

Sustainable Summer Adventures Contest!

 This summer, the Big Kids Club are getting out on fieldtrips from 1 - 5pm at least twice a week, and for the month of July, we're inviting you to participate too!
Our Sustainable Summer Adventures Contest is running until July 31, with a free e-book of suggestions, and an awesome grand prize:
$100 to The Observatory Restaurant at Grouse Mountain AND 6 hours of Satur-daycare for up to 2 children at our Broadway centre. Climb the mountain or take the gondola for free when you make a reservation at the restaurant.
Entering the contest is easy (all you have to do is register your email), and you can increase your chances if you're on Instagram. Go on our fieldtrips and post a pic with #BigKidsClub2019 or choose your own adventure. Every post with the hashtag will get an additional entry for the prize!

This summer, stay Extra Safe!

 With our recent policy update, you may have noticed a section on the new forms about the Extra Safe rules...
Unless you haven't yet submitted your updated forms, in which case, please visit buddings.ca/forms and complete the Consent to Policies, and the Daycare Contract as soon as you can, please.
Email them to membership@buddings.ca, and we'll add one free get out of admin fees pass to your account.).
But about Extra Safe rules: What are they? Where are they kept? And how can we follow along?

Summer Party - July 21, 2 - 5pm

 Did you know that Buddings can help you recycle kids' food pouches? Last March, we shipped three boxes of them (almost 40lbs) to Ontario where a special processing plant turns them into park benches. Neat, right?
And here's something else that's cool:
The more we ship, through Terracycle's special program, the more good karma points we can collect, which we can put towards our charity of choice, Vancouver's own Hives for Humanity. So we've been telling families about the initiative, and they've been helping us collect.
In the 4 months since we last shipped out, we have more even more than last time!
That's 40lbs. of plastic that didn't end up in the ocean and hasn't been incinerated. The next time you see them, on the ground at your favourite park, it will be a happy sight!
Those 40lbs sure seemed like a lot, but just 4 months later, we've collected even more! Can you imagine what 100lbs of unrecyclable foil-lined pouches would looks like?
On July 21, we're going to find out!
Our goal is to divert 100lbs of food pouches, AND make a demonstration of the environmental cost of consumption. At our PARTY!
If we want our kids to be able to enjoy the world as we know, our challenge is to make recycling cool! And accessible! And fun!
So... with funding from the Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grants Program, sponsorship from Green Coast Rubbish, and support from our friends and neighbours at King Edward Village, this summer, Buddings is proud to present Clean & Green 2019.
