"THE CHURCH SUPPORTED US"

The graduands in a group photo after the commissioning service
On March 31st 2019, Veritas College Uganda (VCU) joined her new partner-in-training, Deliverance Church (DC) Mbale, to celebrate and commission her first group of participants who completed training in all four ‘Equipping to Serve’ modules in March 2019. DC Mbale is found in Mbale town - Mbale is famous for its extinct volcano, Mount Elgon at the border with Kenya, as well as its annual public cultural boy-to-man circumcision initiation ceremony. With a group of 50 participants (including pastors, deacons, elders, leaders and other church members) starting the first module in May 2018, 35 participants consistently progressed to the fourth and final module.

The Pastor's Take!
Pr Lucius Okello, Lead Pastor, DC Mbale: "We want to thank God for the training we have been undertaking with Veritas College since May 2018. We have had both evening and weekend class groups. Although I have a Degree in Bible and Theology which took me five years and so I thought about sitting in a certificate class. But I decided I had to sit in the classes for several reasons: I needed to be refreshed. Secondly as a Pastor, I needed to see what my leaders and congregation are being taught. How do I give accountability for the people God has committed in my care? Thirdly, I’m interested in teaching others and I saw this class as an avenue to equip me with ability to teach others the word of God. I have heard a lot to learn while in the Veritas classes. I appreciate Veritas for its training program; it is very well organised and scheduled. Back at the Bible College, we simply went over bible interpretation as a course unit and did not give enough time to learn how to interpret scripture. The essence of contextualising God’s word as we communicate it in our sermons is something we didn’t cover in my degree."

"For VCU in Kampala, I testify that our facilitator Pr Peter Makhafu did us really well and that he is doing a really good job on ground in Mbale. He was very committed to the class, following up each participant to ensure they are available or find out why they were not present, when they weren't. I appreciate the participants for their commitment and sacrifices they made to undertake the training, through all the four modules."

"I appreciate the rest of the church who have been supportive of the training, excusing us from some church activities to be able to be part of the classes. For the family members who allowed their husbands, wives and children to take part.

Since we have completed and been commissioned, we want to assure Veritas College that we accept the challenge of training our own church members. We already have three facilitators who are under the mentorship of Pr Makhafu and report that we already have a new class of 30 participants in module one. We also pledge that this training will be introduced in our branch churches here in Mbale so that the believers have the opportunity to receive the training and are well equipped to serve our Lord."

The team at Veritas College Uganda (VCU) is grateful to God for the successful end of the financial year, this June. Reaching over 1,000 participants via training since July 2018 has been a joy and a journey of prayer, faith and team work. We have seen the hand of God work through old and new training and giving partners.
