The Fourth of July CWE Family parade begins at 10am at McPherson & Euclid. KIDS - decorate your bikes and scooters and join us on the parade walk to Maryland Plaza! There we'll celebrate in style with circus performers, magicians, balloon art, face painters, sno cones and popcorn (until supplies last).

CWE Sounds of Summer Music Series - We’re celebrating the return of warmer weather by bringing live music to the streets of the #CWEscene! Every Friday night from 6-9 p.m., you can sip, shop and stroll throughout the neighborhood, all while listening to the sounds of local, live musicians.

Musicians will be stationed at the corners of Maryland & Euclid and McPherson & Euclid. These performances are FREE and open to the public.

In addition to live music, on the First Friday of the month from May-September, several CWE retailers will be extending their hours to give you more opportunities to shop local!

Friday, June 28 - Bowood Farms - Shibori Dying - 10-a - 12pm  - Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting, binding or bunching cloth and dyeing it with indigo. Each student will receive two yards of fabric to dye- that can be made into napkins, a table runner, tea towels or a pillow cover etc… The possibilities are endless! You will be able to allow your creativity to flow and produce a one of a kind product. This workshop involves the use of indigo dye and is held outside, please dress accordingly in old clothing that may be stained. Workshop is limited to 10 participants.

Saturday, June 29 - Bowood Farms - Iris Barn Floral Arrangements - 12-2pm - Immerse yourself in the dramatic, floral world of Larysa Bernhardt of Iris Barn. Larysa grows and forages flowers on her small-scale farm to create romantic arrangements with layers of colors and textures. Through this hands-on class you will learn how to create your own beautiful centerpiece with tips from Larysa. The stunning arrangement you create, along with the vessel and flower frog, are yours to take home. Friday, July 5 - Bowood FarmsCyanotype Workshop - 11 AM – 12 PM  - Cyanotype, or “sun printing” is a photographic printing process that produces a stunning cyan-blue print through sun exposure. Learn how to mix the chemicals, coat materials with photosensitive emulsion, and create one-of-a-kind contact prints utilizing the sun. Participants will make and take home several Cyanotype prints on paper. This workshop involves the use of chemicals, please dress accordingly in old clothing and shoes that may be stained. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. $30.

Friday,  July 5 - Bowood FarmsSucculent Windowsill Planting - 2 PM – 3 PM - Taught by Anne Berman.  Plant an assortment of succulents in our favorite Camo De’Fiori zinc windowsill planter. This succulent arrangement is perfect for a bright, sunny windowsill. We will guide you through the planting process and discuss ongoing care and maintenance. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your succulent planter and tip sheets. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60. 

Saturday, July 6 - Second Presbyterian Church presents the Forté Handbell Quartet in concert on Saturday, July 6 at 7:00 pm.  The church is located in the Central West End at 4501 Westminster Place, 63108. Based in Colorado Springs, Forté is an advanced handbell quartet marked by artistry, energy, and dedication to their craft. Since forming in 2007, Forté has been featured performers and faculty at Handbell Musicians of America events, presented several successful tours across the country, and released two CDs and a DVD of music videos filmed around the state of Colorado. Saturday, July 6 - Bowood Farms - Sashiko Embroidery 10 AM – 1 PM. Taught by Casey York of Casey York Design.  Sashiko embroidery originated in Japanese textile arts, in which decorative straight stitch patterns were used to mend and reinforce homespun fabrics. Despite its traditional roots, the abstract motifs typical of this meditative hand-stitching technique lend themselves perfectly to modern design. In this workshop, Casey will introduce sashiko materials and the basic stitch and you will embellish a fabric square. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your project, sashiko needle and thread. Since this is a longer workshop, Café Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. $45 

Saturday, July 6 -  Bowood Farms Acrylic Pouring  - 1PM – 4 PM. Taught by Anne Berman. Learn the fun and spontaneous process of acrylic pouring! Each pour leads to an unexpected, but beautiful result. Anne will demonstrate different pouring methods and how to modify your paint with pouring mediums. Each student will experiment on canvas to create colorful acrylic pieces of art. All materials and supplies are provided. The canvas has to fully set, so all pieces will have to be picked up at a later date. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $45

Sunday, July 7 - St. Louis Art Supply - Fountain Pen Sketching - 1-4pm - We are so excited to host this workshop taught by our friend Emmett Catedral (@e.catedral), one of the most talented urban sketchers we know. You’ll learn the basics of drawing with a fountain pen and water brush, starting with a line drawing and adding depth and color by blending the ink. This class will take full advantage of our historic neighborhood, inviting you to draw some of the colorful and interesting buildings that surround our shop. If weather permits, the class will move outdoors to get a better look and practice sketching on the go.

As with all our classes, a complete, artist-curated supply kit is included:

– A Pilot Kakuno fountain pen, super smooth and easy-to-use, with water-soluble ink. (Or upgrade to a LAMY Safari for an extra $20.)

– A Canson Artist Series Mixed Media notebook, the perfect companion for fountain pen that holds up to ink and water.

– A Sakura travel water brush for quick blending and shading.

Believe it or not, these simple tools are everything you’ll need to create dynamic, expressive sketches of the world around you. Your $45 class fee covers these supplies and three hours of expert instruction with a small class size (maximum 10 students).

Saturday,  July 13 - Bowood Farms - Vegetable Watercolor Study 10 AM – 12 PM. Taught by Amy Woods. Artist and gardener, Amy Woods will lead this watercolor workshop using the vegetable garden for inspiration. You will learn to work from the actual subject, rather than photos, to create loose and unique paintings. Get to know your palette and explore what makes painting with watercolor unique. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your own palette and paintbrush to continue your practice. All skill levels are welcome. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60.

Saturday, July 13 - Blessing of the Bicycles at Trinity Church @ 8 AM - Directly after the blessing, we’ll be offering two supported group rides (25 miles and 40 miles). There will also be an obstacle course for kids 5 and under that will teach the fundamentals of bicycle safety. The course will be open from 8:30 AM to 11 AM. If your child doesn't have a helmet or bicycle, there will be some available to use.  Custom-designed ride t-shirts will be available for purchase, and lunch will be provided at the church after both rides. 

Saturday, July 13 - Bowood Farms Modern Lettering - 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM - Taught by Katherine Yabes of Handwritten by Katherine. Ditch the pointed pen, ink and nib and join us for a fresh take on hand lettering with professional calligrapher, Katherine Yabes, of Handwritten by Katherine. With the convenience of a Pentel Sign Pen you will learn the art of faux calligraphy. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home two pens and worksheets to continue your practice. All skill levels are welcome. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60. 

Sunday, July 14 - St. Louis Art Supply - Mixed Media Journaling - 1– 4pm - Thinking of taking up visual journaling, but don’t know where to start? Try out watercolor, drawing, handwriting, collage, and even more expressive options in this afternoon workshop. Our instructor, Carla Tuetken, will offer advice and answer questions about sketching your adventures and recording your thoughts in mixed media. We’ll have lots of supplies for you to try out, including watercolor paints, markers, washi tape, collage materials, and more. Plus, you’ll get to take home these essential supplies:

– Midori 5” x 8” watercolor journal with sturdy covers and Japanese paper
– Two watercolor brushes (#4 Round and #4 Bright)
– Sakura Micron 05 pigment liner
– Tombow MONO #2 pencil
– Soft blue eraser

With those basics in your bag, you’ll be in a great position to expand and develop your journaling practice. Your $45 class fee covers these supplies and three hours of expert instruction with a small class size (limited to 10 students).

Monday, July 15 - Bowood Farms Create Your Own Crystal Grid - 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM. Taught by Drew Dinges. In this class, Bowood’s own crystal guru Drew Dinges, will teach you the meditative art of crystal grids and sacred geometry. Each attendee will choose from one of three intention-stone collections, go through the process of building a personalized grid and leave with a complete collapsible grid and set of crystals. All materials and supplies are included. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $50.

Saturday, July 27 Bowood Farms - Painting with India Ink - 2 PM – 4 PM - Taught by Andrea Tharian. Andrea Henry Tharian will lead this workshop on how to paint flowers from the garden using India ink. You will learn how to paint values through a process of layering ink washes. The class will focus on looking at form and shape - perfect for those new to drawing and painting, although all levels of experience are welcome. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home your India ink and paintbrush to continue your practice. All skill levels are welcome. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60, 

Wednesday, July 31 - Bowood Farms - The Summer Herbalist - 4 PM – 5 PM. Taught by Drew Dinges. Summer in the herb garden provides the gardener with an abundance of possibilities for homemade herbal infusions. In this class, Drew will explore old-fashioned techniques using herbal harvests with a modern twist.  He will share his favorite herbal infusions and the many ways to use them, including a list of herbal recipes. $10. 

Class Dates: September 9 – November 18 - Registration is now open for the 2019 Neighborhood Leadership Academy! The Neighborhood Leadership Academy, created in 2002, connects resources at the University -- Creating Whole Communities and University of Missouri Extension -- with residents and neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan area who are interested in improving their communities. The Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) provides hands-on leadership training that emphasizes community building principles and strategies, project planning, organizational leadership and management practices, and personal leadership skills. Participants are actively involved in their neighborhoods and represent communities from throughout the St. Louis region. Academy participants may be neighborhood association members, community leaders, resident volunteers, community-based organization staff, business owners, local government staff, and municipal elected officials. Participants who successfully complete the program receive a Certificate in Neighborhood Leadership from the Chancellor of the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Monday, July 29 Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
