Resource of the Month
The Grants & sponsored Research IniTiative (GRIT)
Co-sponsored by the U19 Youth Forward project, U19 ESSENCE Hub, and U19 SPIRIT Hub, The Grants & sponsored Research IniTiative (GRIT) is a monthly research group/webinar with aims to:
  • Provide a space for new investigators to receive constructive feedback from peers on grant proposals for NIH and other funders
  • Provide an opportunity for senior investigators to share their grant writing experience with others on specific agencies and funding mechanisms
  • Allow investigators from Low- and Middle-Income Countries sites linked to the U19 hubs to participate in webinars and present on proposals such as the K43 Emerging Global Leaders award to build capacity

Save the Date: European Implementation Event 2020
Implementation takes center stage at the European Implementation Event 2020 (#EIE2020). This event is hosted by the European Implementation Collaborative and will take place on October 1 and 2, 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Pre-conference activities will occur on September 30.

  • Working to improve patient health through translation of research or evidence into practice;

The Society for Implementation Research Collaboration (SIRC) is seeking nominations for an inaugural award to recognize outstanding contributions of collaborative teams in advancing implementation science and practice consistent with the spirit of SIRC’s mission. Events & Conferences
Save the Date: Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) 5th Annual Meeting
September 18-20 – Washington, DC

This year’s theme is “Making a Difference: Using Patient-Centered Research Results in the Real World”. The PCORI Annual Meeting is expected to bring together approximately 1,200 members of the healthcare community for two-and-a-half-days of updates on how researchers, scientists, patients, caregivers, clinicians, payers, and others are working together to make health research more useful and relevant. Registration is free for all attendees.

Evaluation Conference 2019
November 11-16 – Minneapolis, MN

Hosted by the American Evaluation Association, the 33rd Annual Evaluation Conference will bring together evaluators, evaluation scholars, students, and evaluation users from around the world, where they are invited to assemble, share, and learn from the successes of the international discipline and practice of evaluation. Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) National Forum
December 8-11 – Orlando, FL

The National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care is a four-day conference that has been the home of quality improvement (QI) in health care for more than 30 years. The annual meeting brings together health care visionaries, improvement professionals, world leaders, industry newcomers, and beyond. Explore how improvement science methodologies can be used to effect real change in patient safety and care.

Implementation Research: Using Qualitative Research Methods to Improve Policy and Practice – Chapel Hill, North Carolina
As part of the 16th Annual Qualitative Research Summer Intensive, Research Talk Inc. and the UNC Odum Institute for Research in Social Science will host a 2-day course taught by Dr. Alison Hamilton on July 22-23.

Fundamentals of Implementation Science, University of Washington  Online
This 11-week online course, held from September 16-December 1, will provide students with an introduction to the emerging field of implementation research through lectures from global health leaders and opportunities to apply lessons learned on topics of global health importance. Participants may attend as an independent participant or as part of a local site. To be admitted to the course you must have a master’s degree in a health-related field or in the social sciences, or equivalent professional experience.

This PCORI Funding Announcement (PFA) is intended to promote the targeted implementation and systematic uptake of shared decision making (SDM) in healthcare settings, in line with PCORI’s goal of supporting patients in making informed decisions about their care. For this PFA, PCORI defines an SDM strategy as an intervention or approach that draws on and presents evidence to inform patients of available treatment options and their risks and benefits, and either engages patients in a decision-making process with their clinician or promotes their ability to engage in such a process.

Applying Dissemination and Implementation Science to Total Worker Health Research and Practice: What We Need to Know
Tuesday, July 2, 1:00-2:30pm ET
Focused on the theory and practice of research dissemination and implementation in the workplace, featured speakers include Dr. Ross Brownson, Dr. Tom Cunningham, and Dr. Pamela Tinc. Dr. Ross Brownson will provide an overview of dissemination and implementation (D&I) science, including information on strategies for researchers to engage in D&I research and also for practitioners who need to improve their delivery in practice. Next, Dr. Tom Cunningham will discuss the new NIOSH Translation Research Framework, how various contexts influence TWH dissemination strategies, and relevant examples. To conclude, Pam Tinc will share her own experience from the field implementing a National Rollover Protection System (ROPS) Rebate Program, sharing lessons learned and areas for future research.
