An excellent video has just been released of the Our Journey Through Disability event, co-produced with parents of children with a disability in the Newry area. The aim of the event was to provide other parents of children with a disability, the chance to learn of the services available to their families, to listen to the journeys taken by 8 families from birth to transition to adulthood, and to speak directly with service providers to identify the barriers faced and possible solutions.  A report card from the event has also been produced to help facilitate discussions on finding a way forward for service providers to help meet the needs families of children with a disability.

New Parenting Page

We have introduced a new Parent Support page to the CYPSP website which can be accessed through the parent support icon on the home page.  Parents’ influence is one of the most significant factors in a child’s life chances.  We want to support and work with parents as the primary care giver and educator for their children to ensure what we offer is meaningful, consistent and available at the point of need.  The page holds usefulI information and Leaflets,  a calendar of Evidence Based Parenting Support programmes and Development Opportunities for Practitioners as well as links to other support services.

As a young person with autism, 16 year old Chelsea decided that more needed to be done to support other autistic individuals and created a sensory room in her school in Belfast. With Chelsea’s ideas and insight, she also reshaped our ‘Girls and Autism Friendship Club’, providing girls with autism in the community with a place to socialise in a supportive environment.
