BPF Vision Next Steps
As discussed at the meeting we are planning to put together some position statements to go alongside our Vision and to expand on some of the issues raised in it.
Below is a list of six possible Position Statements which could be prepared, these come in part from the Report on the consultation and in part from points made at the meeting.
The proposal is for a limited number of statements so that we don’t get bogged down by producing lots of them.
- What do you think of the list – does it cover the right range of subjects?
- Any comments on the details?
- Are you willing to help write one or more of them?

Battery Operated Power Tools Training
Another training course now available – battery operated power tools!
3rd July at the Greenway Centre, Southmead.
There are a very limited number of spaces on this course, so it will no doubt be booked up quickly.
This is for people who have already completed the basic H&S training.

Future Parks
You might have seen some of the press coverage of the Future Parks award to Bristol and seven other Councils last week.
You can hear an item about it that was on the Claire Cavanagh show on BBC Radio Bristol here – it starts at 2hrs 10min 15secs and features interviews with Victoria from the National Trust and myself.

Goat Grazing in Stoke Park
Goats will graze the Stoke Park Estate gun battery monument from this week. They'll help control the growth of vegetation which is damaging the structure.

Local Plan Sites
The consultation on the review of the Local Plan has now closed but you might be interested to see the work that members of the Tree Forum have done in uploading the information on the proposed designation of green spaces.
The ‘Trees of Bristol’ website, now includes lists that show which sites are proposed as Local Green Space and Reserved Open Space. This amazing piece of work by Chris Wallace and Mark Ashdown can be seen at http://bristoltrees.space/Tree/localplan-sites

Age-Friendly Parks
A message from Ben Barker
Hello Everybody,
As you may know, late in 2018 Bristol was recognised as Age-Friendly by the World Health Organisation, ie not really very friendly, but hoping to move in that direction. The next phase of the Age Friendly City project is to look at each of the neighbourhoods across the city. Each will be Age Friendly and Age Hostile in different ways.
One question that we would like you to ask about ‘your’ park is in what ways is it Age Friendly already and in which ways is it Unfriendly to older people and what can we do about it?
You might like to raise this issue with your membership. Fairly obvious things like a lack of seats, toilets etc may come back, but you might get some surprises too. Of course, the fact that something is obvious doesn’t mean that it’s unimportant or easy to remedy.
The idea of Age-Friendliness is likely to be a focus for local activity over the next few years, so to keep in touch with this, please complete this form for Bristol Ageing Better.
