Sunday, June 30th

the Third Sunday after Pentecost

9:00 AM-- HOLY EUCHARIST, RITE I
10:15 AM-- COFFEE HOUR in the COMMON ROOM

OLD TESTAMENT: II Kings 2:1- 14
         PSALM: 77: 1-20
         NEW TESTAMENT: Galatians 5: 1, 13-25
         GOSPEL: Luke 9: 51-62

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This Sunday is the third Sunday after Pentecost. On Sundays from now until September 1, we gather each week to Celebrate Eucharist at 9:00 am. Summertime Coffee Hour follows each week downstairs. Please remember to adjust your summer schedule on Sundays so you don't arrive too early or too late!

In the Hebrew Scriptures, we read in II Kings the story of Elijah commissioning Elisha to follow him, giving him "a double portion of his Spirit," before being taken into heaven. Incidentally, this story shares many similarities with Christ's Ascension, and it is likely that Luke had II Kings in mind as he finished his gospel.

In the New Testament, Paul writes to the Galatians that it is for freedom that Christ has set them free, and that they ought no longer to live under the yoke of slavery. He finishes with an encouragement to them to follow the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, he concludes, there is no law.

Building on the Sure Foundation We are making excellent progress in our modest capital campaign to renovate the downstairs restrooms, children's classrooms, and the kitchen. As of writing, we have received over $65,000 in support, both in giving and in pledges. This puts us near ninety percent of our goal. Thank you to everyone who has given so generously! If you have not yet given, please consider donating or making a pledge very soon. Thank you!

No nursery care during the summer. Based on the current needs of the parish, we are not offering nursery care during the summer. If you are in need of childcare during worship, please contact Fr. Jay, Fr. Dan, or CE Chair Martina Stippler.

Summer Coffee Hour continues this Sunday, June 30. Coffee Hour is much simpler in the summer, with sparkling water, tea or lemonade, coffee from our Kuerig machine, and cookies or simple snacks. We still need volunteers for some of July and August. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Common Room.

Tuesday Bible Study is taking a break over the Fourth of July, but will resume on July 10th.

peace, Jay+

Our capital campaign for the renovation of Good Shepherd's downstairs space, "Building on the Sure Foundation," is making good progress. The kitchen, the two restrooms, the first and second grade classroom, and the nursery, are being rejuvenated. The two restrooms are also now handicapped accessible.
Both fundraising and renovations are progressing well. Our goal for this effort is $75,000, and at present we are approximately 90% toward our goal. Please consider prayerfully what you can give, and please make your gift or pledge very soon.
Greetings from England! The pilgrims from Good Shepherd have had a very successful start to our time. Touring both London and Canterbury, and getting a behind the scenes tour of Canterbury Cathedral, a real surprise came when the Archbishop of Canterbury himself showed up for Evensong! Enjoy these pictures and hold us in your prayers.
PLEASE NOTE: Renovations are nearing completion, and some spaces are available as renovations complete.
Some spaces may still be unavailable. Look for signage regarding spaces involved in the renovation. And note: restrooms are now single-use, gender neutral, and handicapped accessible.
Please sign up to host Coffee Hour one Sunday during the summer.

Summer Coffee Hour is much simpler. Sparkling water, tea or lemonade, and coffee from the Kuerig machine make for a simple yet lovely time of fellowship for those who worship with us. Please sign up in the Common Room.
Summertime and the living is easy!
Ted Ketterer, Henry Shepherd, Jim Nauen, and Troy Bracher pose during their lunch and Brae Burn golf outing. This was a Good Shepherd auction item in 2018. Make your plans now to support the 2019 Good Shepherd auction.
Mark your calendars:

Good Shepherd, through our Outreach ministry, will volunteer with B-SAFE on July 10-12.

We will provide lunch at Sts. A&M on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday we will support the field trip to Lake Cochituate. Contact Marilyn Crone for more details.
The Church's one foundation
is Jesus Christ her Lord:

she is his new creation
by water and the word:
from heaven he came and sought
her to be his holy bride;
with his own blood he bought her,

and for her life he died.
