Digital transformation is continuing with the creation of platforms by leading forwarders and still-unknown new players alike, posing a challenge for shippers and transport companies to define their strategy amid the new multi-channel offering. The recent Transport Logistic trade fair in Munich was a good opportunity to gauge interest, propose tests and obtain global customer feedback, although the Global Freight Forwarding 2019 report from Transport Intelligence suggests the average level of digital platform bookings remains barely above 10%. What’s telling are the continuing obstacles to online booking – claims (16%) and exception management (11%). For all players, adding value includes maintaining good service and information levels to ensure customer satisfaction.
