It's Pride Month! At our June Study Group, we'll be celebrating and discussing the AAPI LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and more) community. We want to unpack how Western gender binary norms and colonization has shaped our understandings of gender and sexuality.
We're going to break these acronyms and concepts down and consider: What is gender? What is the gender binary? How have we arrived at these deeply held beliefs?
At this Study Group, we will have a brief 101 presentation, listen to spoken word by DarkMatter, a collaboration between Janani Balasubramanian and Alok Vaid-Menon who are Indian American and of queer and trans experience, and spend time in small discussion groups.
