UPDATE

Dear EIT Health friends,

This is our last newsletter before summer holiday and a good opportunity to sum up the first half of the year. I am delighted to announce that we have received over 100 project proposals in the RIS Innovation Call BP 2019. This was a pilot programme and the high number of submissions have proved that the progressing regions in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe have impressive innovation potential. Now we are finalizing evaluation of the applications and we will inform you about the winners during forthcoming weeks.

We have also summed up how many talents from RIS regions got into EIT Health major education and accelerator programmes e.g. Health Venture Lab, HelloAI, LEAD Summer School or a StarShip. Over 90 applicants from RIS regions were accepted with the success rate of 34%. Again this shows that in the progressing regions, there is a huge interest in developing healthcare innovation capabilities. There is also a broad pool of high-skilled students and professionals who are ready to join the best European teams working on European healthcare projects. I am sure together, we have the power to inspire, to connect, and to deliver new opportunities and rich experiences that might open doors to innovation and progress.

Last but not least, during the InnoStars Partners Assembly that took place in June in Budapest, we confirmed the directions of further development of EIT Health InnoStars. Today InnoStars stays for five regions in four countries, 21 academic and non-academic Partners and 14 EIT Health Hubs within the Regional Innovation Scheme Programme. This is for sure the biggest geographical region in EIT Health with the outstanding source of local assets and talents. We are sure that thanks to bonding of progressing regions together, we can significantly contribute to the development of innovation ecosystem in Europe. Additionally to the Assembly, Partners could take part in a dedicated workshop with the best-in-class experts and evaluators who shared their advices regarding preparation of successful innovation projects. We have also confirmed that the Regional Innovation Scheme Programme is very intensively developed by our team. I am sure that those efforts and further cooperation of our community will help in development of local innovation ecosystems. It can bring positive results to the whole European community, not only to the InnoStars regions.

Finally, I would like to wish all of you a really nice holiday! Take a rest!

With best wishes,

Balazs Furjes | Managing Director EIT Health InnoStars
