(a) The Val Wood Prize 2019: Love Letters is open until September 21, 2019.
Free to enter.
Submit stories in the form of a love letter, up to 1500 words.
Prizes: £100, £50 and two concessions of £25. The winning entries will also be published on Val Wood’s website and Borrowbox, the digital library.

(b) The Saltaire Festival 2019 Poetry Competition is now open until June 30, 2019, 5pm.
Theme: Textiles, Technology and Time
The theme celebrates the industry, heritage and enduring creativity of Saltaire, and they are looking for poetry entries that link Textiles, Technology and Time to the village of Saltaire.
The winning entries will be published on the website, featured on social media channels, and promoted in the Saltaire Review. The winners will also be invited to read their poem at one of the festival’s events.

(c) The Soundwork Monologue Competition is open until September 30, 2019.
Free to enter.
Any style or theme. Up to ten minutes duration.
The winning entry will be recorded by a professional actor and will be placed on Soundcloud and soundwork-uk.co.uk along with a photo.

(d) The High Sheriff’s Cheshire Prize for Literature 2019 is open until July 1, 2019.
Free to enter.
The Prize will be awarded for an original and previously unpublished playscript for theatre, radio or television, max 15 minutes in length.
Submit a one-page treatment, 500-800 words. The scripts should be in one location and feature no more than three actors, while exploring the use of virtual social networking characters.
Twelve submissions will be commissioned to produce the 15 minute script. Four entries will then be chosen to be performed and judged at a live performance in November at Storyhouse.
You must have been born, live or have lived, study or have studied, work or have worked in Cheshire. For the purposes of the Prize, Cheshire includes the Wirral, as well as Warrington and Halton.

(e) The Bring your Limericks to Limerick 2019 Competition is open until 27th July 2019.
Free to enter. Entries must conform to the Limerick rhyme scheme.
The authors of a long list of 25 Limericks will be given the opportunity to compete in the final of the competition in August. Only those who can attend the competition in Limerick will be eligible to compete in the final (Sat 17th August). The winner will receive €500.

(f) The Galtellì Literary Prize is open until July 30, 2019.
Free to enter. Submit short literary texts 3000-5000 characters long, in English, Italian, French, Spanish and Sardinian.
Your entry should be inspired by the Nobel Prize winner and Sardinian novelist Grazia Deledda, and the themes present in her classic novel Canne al Vento, translated into English as Reeds in the Wind.

3. Submissions
(a) Kissing Dynamite is open for submissions from the 5th of each month through the 15th (they’re located in the EST/EDT time zone).
Submissions are free. Send one poem of any length per month, in any style/form.
All writers at any stage in their career are welcome to submit.

(b) The Compass magazine publishes poetry, articles and interviews, and reviews of collections by established voices and new voices to watch out for. They don’t have themed submissions——however, for Issue 8, they are keen to read poems that encapsulate the current political climate, be it today or a couple of months from now.

(c) Neon Literary Magazine is currently open to submissions of poetry, prose and photography.
They say, "We prefer darker pieces, especially those with an element of the surreal or speculative, but are open to reading anything and like to be surprised. Images, comics and graphic poems are also welcome, as are self-contained extracts." Accepted writers receive a small royalty payment and a copy of the issue in which their work appears.

(e) BlueHouse is an online literary journal exploring the use of the "I voice" by emerging and established writers. They are looking for experimental and intersecting forms: where fiction meets essay, where essay meets poetry, where poetry meets visual art.

(f) The Passage Between are always looking for new submissions. They accept poems, short stories, art, or true stories.

(h) Channel is an environmentalist literary magazine publishing poetry and prose that fosters connection with the natural world.
They are opens for submissions until July 31, 2019. They have a particular interest in work which encourages reflection on human interaction with plant and animal life, landscape and the self.

(j) Sonder's first issue is all about the realisation that everyone has a life as complex as your own. They want you to challenge yourselves and sink into the mind of someone else. They accept short stories, flash fiction, poetry and creative essays.
