🏆 Havoc win 2019 Etchells World Championships 🏆

Congratulations to the newly crowned 2019 Etchells World Champions. RPAYC Members Iain Murray, Colin Beashel and Richie Allanson racing on Havoc have won the 2019 Etchells World Championship.
What an amazing achievement, we are very proud to have the team as members of RPAYC (combined total of 97 years membership here at The RPAYC).
This is not the first Etchells World Title for Iain (1984 Winner) & Colin (1993 & 1995 Winner). 
These guys are also collectively the current Australian and NSW Etchells Champions.

Level 1 Water Restrictions

More than 85% of Greater Sydney’s water supply relies on rain and right now, water restrictions apply to everyone in Sydney (Blue Mountains and the Illawarra), including the Club and our Members while at the Club.  Water restriction breaches carry fines of $220 by individuals and $550 by companies, and the Club requires all Members, Tenants, Contractors and visitors to adhere to water restrictions when at the Club.  Where the Club is issued a penalty as the result a breach by an individual or business operating on Club premises, the penalty will be forwarded to the offender.

Water Use – Club Property

Wash boats (only for maintenance purposes) with a bucket then rinse with a hose
Hoses must be fitted with a trigger nozzle
X  Wash boats with a hose that doesn’t have a trigger nozzle
X  Leave hoses running unattended
X  Use fire hoses for any purpose other than firefighting, testing or related
X  Wash hard surfaces with hose
X  Wash vehicles whilst on Club property

Portuguese Picnic 

The second of the Portuguese Club Picnic Days was hosted by Rear Commodore Activities - Julia Hornsby on Sunday.
Approximately 35 people made it down to the beach on a fantastic day for a warm and sunny BBQ, with 4 boats racing down and some fantastic wines donated by Tony Doyle. 

The next Portuguese Picnic is scheduled for Sunday 28th July and will be hosted by Rear Commodore Membership - Liz de Soyres. 

Combined Interclub Final Results

Teams from the Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia (CYCA), The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC), Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) & Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) contested the final event of the 2019 Interclub Challenge on Sunday, hosted by the CYCA.
The Interclub Challenge sees youth sailors from the four yacht clubs get out on the water and compete in this fleet racing challenge. Each yacht club has a turn of hosting the event, and is represented by two teams, with the combined scores of the two teams going towards an aggregated point score to determine the winning yacht club.

We are pleased to report that the RPAYC finished in 2nd place overall.

Club Member Achievements

Optimist World Championships  
Good Luck to Daniel Links & Jono Tuite who are part of the 5 Australian sailors that make up the The Australian Optimist Team competing in the Worlds in Antigua with racing scheduled for 6-16 July. Reports so far are that the breeze and conditions appear to be good every day and the location is absolutely beautiful!
This is the first time the event is being held in Antigua. It is only the second time it has been held in the Caribbean after Dominican Republic hosted it in 2012.

International 5.5m Swiss Open 

Martin Cross has just finished up in 7th place at the International 5.5 Swiss Open in Lake Geneva. They were racing in their latest 5.5m Beta Crucis and had a blast. 
Next up is the Gold Cup and Worlds in Helsinki in 3 weeks.

Jensen Fights Hepatoblastoma

The RPAYC Members were saddened to hear of the challenge ahead for our centreboard sailor Jensen Lambeth and his parents Justin & Heidi Lambeth (nee Gordon).  Nine year old Jensen, is fighting a super rare, one in one million, tumour in his liver that has been diagnosed as a high risk hepatoblastoma. 
We would like to wish Jensen all the best over the coming months and look forward to seeing him back sailing soon

Maintenance Notice - Surface Cleaning Car Parks 

Over the next month Club staff will be cleaning the car park surfaces to remove glass, dust and debris. To minimise inconvenience to Members and in order to carry out work efficiently the Club will provide Members with at least one weeks’ notice via newsletter and will sign post areas and dates required.  
 
Weather permitting the middle level car park will be cleaned on Tuesday 9th July.
 
We kindly ask that Members ensure that vehicles are not parked in the areas as sign-posted and request Members with vehicles in storage observe the Club Parking By-laws which prohibit parking for more than 3 consecutive nights per week. 
The Member's Badge Draw jackpot is now at $850! Make sure you are at the Club this Thursday between 6pm and 8pm for your chance to win! 

Halyards bistro will be open for dinner from 1730hrs - 2000hrs with a new weekly special each week as well as the Bistro Menu & Kids Menu available each week. Invite your friends to join you dockside.

Dustbuster Round 2
17 boats were out on the water for a 0815hrs first warning signal on Sunday morning for the second stage of the Dustbuster Series with 4 windward leeward races done and dusted by 1030hrs.

Stage 3 of the Dustbuster regatta is scheduled for the 28th of July - Lock it in your calendar now!

 

Letter to Yachties - Protesting  

Just a reminder that ours is a self-policing sport, in that in most cases we don’t have umpires on water, so it’s up to us to all obey the rules.

With that in mind, we should all remember that if we are involved in an incident on the water we should protest. By doing so everybody learns and it hopefully resolves the ongoing disputes and discussions.

Audit Season - Expiry 

A reminder that 2018/19 Audits have now expired. All Australian Sailing Special Regulation compliance forms expired on the 30th June 2019. If you have yet to book your audit do so ASAP by contacting the Sailing Office or email your completed audit form to sailing@rpayc.com.au as you are not eligible to race without one. Please be aware that spot checks will be carried out randomly this season.

2019/2020 IRC Rating Certificates 

The new 2019 IRC ratings year has started. Don’t waste time and revalidate online your IRC certificate by simply clicking on the IRC Revalidation logo below.

The 2018 IRC Rating Year ended on the 31 May 2019 and all IRC certificates have expired after that.
All boats that were rated in 2017 and 2018 will be able to revalidate online their certificates.

Centreboard News

29er - Assistance to identify owner 

A 29er (sail number AUS353) with a red cover is currently in storage at Centreboard under the staircase to the middle car park. This boat is not labelled with a boat name or owner and we are unable to correspond the sail number AUS353 to a storage agreement. The Club is asking for your assistance to help us identify the owner, if you are the owner of this boat or know who the owner is, we would appreciate if you could let us know or ask the owner to make contact with the Club urgently.

Optimist Core Skills Holiday Camp - Brewer Racing

Brewer Racing have some great opportunities to get on the water during this July school holidays!
They are really excited to be working with a new bunch of kids for their core skills camp these holidays here at The RPAYC. They have 3 or 4 spots left for this so jump on board if you want to be involved.

Core skills is targeted to those who are in intermediate, or early stages of open fleet racing. There is a focus on technique needed for good speed and boat handling and generally will be a smaller group than the open fleet sessions.
Dates: 8-10 July
Times: 930am - 4.00pm

CPR, Pain Management, Provide First Aid - Location: RPAYC
  • CPR  – Thursday 25th July 2019 9am – 11.30am ($65)
    Provide Pain Management – Thursday 25th July 2019 12.30pm – 4pm ($65)
    Provide First Aid (inc CPR & basic emergency)  – Thursday 15th August 2019 9am – 5pm ($170pp)
  • Provided by Surf Life Saving Australia. For Club Members regularly volunteering for race management participation is FoC. Email your confirmation to Sailtraining@rpayc.com.au and SLSA will email your course material and pre learning. 
Race Official
  • The Club Race Officer seminar is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in the basics to conduct consistent, fair and safe club racing.
  •  
Special Regulations Auditor
  • The Club Equipment Auditor seminar is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members to assess Category 3-7 racing vessels and their compliance to the Special regulations.
Club Judge Course
  • The Club Judge seminar is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in the basics to conduct consistent procedure, fair protest hearings at a club level.
Safety & Survival at Sea (SSSC)
  • Option 1 - Above & Beyond Boating have 2 x SSSC courses scheduled at the club:  20-21 July 2019 and 2-3 November. Booking is required as there are limited spaces on each.The courses are organised and run by Above and Beyond Boating, full details and booking follow the link below.   • Option 2 - Marine SafetyWorks have numerous World Sailing Safety & Sea Survival Courses booked which are based down in Rose Bay (Theory) & Qantas Pool (Practical)  for the coming months as well. For more details and to book  Click Here. 
VHF / HF Radio
  • If your boat has a VHF radio then you need this licence to use the radio and to obtain an MMSI number for your radio and/or AIS. This is our recommended pathway to a radio licence unless you are planning to operate HF radios. Register Here.
Working with Children Check
  • A Working With Children Check is a requirement for people who work or volunteer in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and a review of findings of workplace misconduct. Register Here.
Keelboat / Dinghy Instructor and Assistant 
  • Become a Dinghy Assistant Instructor.

RPAYC Coaching Services

Are you new to sailing, coming back to sailing or wanting to tuneup your skills. Contact the Sail Training department for some Coaching assistance. 

Keep your skills sharp without committing to a full program, and get out on beautiful Pittwater when it suits you best. These sessions are ideal for people who are short on time but still love sailing! Our prices are all inclusive of boat usage and instructor hire
Training sessions are less formal than a course and have no predefined syllabus. You have more freedom to practice what you choose. Contact the Sailing Office on 9998 3771 or email sailtraining@rpayc.com.au to book.

There is space on board a Club Elliott 7 for up to to 4 participants. Private Keelboat Lesson's are priced at $100 per hour/per person with a minimum session time of 2 hours, however we recommend 3 hours as a more efficient use of time.

Own a boat already or seeking dinghy training, coaching can be provided at $60 per hour/per person. Contact the office for a customised package to suit your needs.
