Roadrunner Speaks Vol 6.6

Gidd'up! It's fixin' to be time to get along outta here!

Your team of leads are heading out for our final prep weekend before the event, where our town will really start to take shape.  It's been a wild year so far, and we can't believe it's finally time.  We're so excited to see it all take shape.

The sun burns in 5 days! (FIVE!)

Final Work Weekend

There is still plenty to get done to get ready for SunBurn. We could really use additional help to finish out some final smaller projects, prepare for Art placement and help set the effigy for construction.

If you can make it out this weekend please pre-register by filling out this signup form.

Early Arrival

Early arrival on Wednesday, 7/3, will be permitted only for those who have been approved based on communicating these needs to the Art or Placement departments, specifically for art projects or theme camps, or taking Wednesday shifts on the volunteer database.  We will have an EA list and wristbands. If you have EA needs email Art or Placement NOW!

Gate hours will be a loose 10am to about 4pm. If you arrive when gate is closed, you will need to follow regular gate protocol and come back when gate officially opens on Thursday at 9am.

Email sunburn@nmsunburn.com for more info or to request approval for EA.

Photographic Consent

Photographic consent is an important topic which gets too little attention in the default world. Our events are intended to invite an atmosphere of safety and freedom. It is imperative that you have the consent of all of your subjects in advance. You are responsible for consent prior to capture; additional consent must be given for distribution post-event. Almost any device can photograph as well as video, so obtaining consent on video takes little time and minimal space. If your subjects are recognizable, please get their consent.

Here are some examples:
  • Bring an empty picture frame and ask participants to pose in frame for a picture. This is clearly staged for the camera, so the consent is obvious.
  • You are watching an activity. You ask the art installation's leads if photography or filming is allowed. If so, you then ask the participants ahead of their participation if you may film them and take a short video of both your request for consent and their reply. You then shoot the activity in such a way as to minimize capture of other viewers who did not provide consent. This is clearly not staged, but you have the approval of a lead as well the participants.
  • You are standing behind a crowd observing an activity in front of the crowd. You've already obtained consent of the performers. You are wishing to get a wide angle shot of a community gather. You approach the rear of the crowd and ask those first visible folks if you can shoot from behind them. Say they say yes, so you ask if you can get that on camera for consent respect, which they agree to and you video your question and their response. Then you back up and get wide angle shot. In this case, you have done a thorough effort to get consent of everyone who is recognizable.
You agree that you WILL NOT use ANY of the material photographed at SunBurn for commercial purpose or personal social media sharing unless you have consent for social media posting from every identifiable individual - ask before sharing!
Important Info & Reminders
  • All transfers/registrations close 7/1, including ticket transfers, vehicle registration, individual camping registration, minor contact form, and the volunteer database.
  • To recap prohibited items - firearms, fireworks (including sparklers), illegal substances, unticketed persons, MOOPy things like feather boas and war bonnets (please don't be That Guy anyway....), smoking anywhere other than in one of 2 designated areas.
  • Plan your travel ahead of time.  Have a plan B already in place if it's looking like you'll arrive after or before gate is open.
  • Remember, there are no trash/recycling facilities anywhere on site. You and only you are responsible for your trash. Nothing in the potty but human waste and 1-ply.  PERIOD!
  • Exodus is on Sunday. Everyone who is not pre-approved to make two trips (theme camps, art projects, Leave No Trace, event leads, infrastructure, etc.) must be off-site no later than 3:00pm.
Props Request

If you happen to have any extra porch chairs, rugs, or couches that fit lying around (and that you have room to pack), SunBurn would love to borrow them for the weekend! Last year we tried to keep the porches in style with the Old West setting so period chairs are especially welcome for the porches.
With the volunteer database closing July 1, this is just another quick reminder to ALL volunteers that some shift times and duties have changed in the run up to the event. Before Monday, please be sure to check for any updates before you head this way to confirm your scheduled times. We'll have a sign-up sheet on-site, too.

Also, please take a minute to ensure your contact details and camp name are correct in your profile. To check: click your name button at the upper right of the volunteer database main screen.

THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING!!!

See y'all out on the ranch!
