Dear <<First Name>>,

We trust you are well and experiencing God's abundant grace in your life. We are well and are leaving for a 6 week trip to South Africa tomorrow to attend Barry's niece's wedding, to visit supporting churches, and to attend TWFTW leaders conference (5th to the 9th of August.) Thank you for taking the time to read our news and to pray for the Word of God to continue to spread rapidly (2 Thes 3.1).

God bless, Barry Funnell

Why do we want to translate the Bible into the mother tongue of people?

The Bible in my own language

Jesus wants to communicate His love to all people in their heart language. There is no short cut to bringing God's Word into peoples' lives. If they do not understand the message, or if it is in a foreign language, how can the Bible impact their lives? So often we have heard it said, "How can you say God loves me when when he doesn't speak my language!"

But God's love is so great, the Word became a human being (John 1). The good news is that God does love everyone and can speak their language, as we can see on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit spoke through the disciples (Acts 2.8): " Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language?"

In Rev 5.8 we see the far-reaching impact of Jesus death on the cross for all: "And they sang a new song:  'You are worthy to take the scroll  and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.'"

CEO for the UK

Daniel Davies, a British man who has been on the TWFTW UK board for fours years, is transitioning to the CEO role and has been working  two days a week in a voluntary capacity since April. (He is in the white shirt in the photo above, taken on a trip to Tanzania in 2016).

He has set up several meetings with partner organisations in the UK. We have also recently managed to secure some major funding in the UK which has been a great encouragement.

Please join us in praise for:

  • Antoinette vd Meulen recently consultant-checked and approved the book of 1 Kings in seven languages in Tanzania.
  • We praise God for the funds that have come in to help the Sena Flood victims. We received £2100 to help our literacy coordinators to provide food for their families and plant new crops.
  • Praise the Lord for the printing of the Romani-Slovak NT by the Slovak Bible Society. They have been delivered to Pierre's house and a nearby church, ready for launching and distribution.
  • Our first training in Abuja, Nigeria was successful. There were 11 language groups that were trained to translate the Bible for their own people. Over 200 language groups there do not yet have Scripture in their language.

Consultation in Ethiopia

Barry has done two consultant trips to Ethiopia this year. In February he checked Luke in 2 languages and did a final mentoring session with Mikko Tassia, from Finland, who has now been approved as an international consultant. He went again in April to check Ezra and Nehemiah, and also did a final mentoring session with Tamene Lale, who has now been approved as a local consultant in Ethiopia. Anna from Finland came as an observer as well.
Our recent consultant checking in Addis Ababa

Skype checking is cost effective

Barry has also spent several weeks of the year doing consultant checking via skype with the Roma team in East Slovakia. He has checked and approved, in total, Genesis to Esther, plus Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Daniel and Malachi over the past few years.
