Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS), a regular update of club news.

President’s Day 2019 - Club Six-A-Side - 25 August

The 2019 President’s Day is a club staple for the August Bank Holiday weekend and this year we have revised the format to broaden the event and encourage more members from across the club to take part. As such, we will be hosting a six-a-side tournament with teams roughly split on ability to make the day enjoyable for all. If your interested in being involved in such a great day, please mark your attendance in the usual way by hitting “attend” on the Teamo event. There will be a £15 charge per person which includes match fee, lunch and dinner. An absolute bargain. Those who don’t want to take part but want to attend can enjoy the rum punch on offer as per normal!

Please contact Dan Johnson to captain a side or if you have any questions.

Wimbledon Pride World Cup - Saturday Social

This Saturday the women’s section has another fantastic social planned for the club after the Saturday games. The Wimbledon Pride World Cup: a combined celebration of the seminal tennis tournament, the finals of the Women's Football World Cup, and London Pride.

Think jugs of Pimm's, think keepy-uppy, think rebound net drills with a tennis ball, think of who you want to team up with (max 6, £10 per team entry) to complete 4 ferocious tasks to win a Rainbow Cake as well as eternal glory.

Of course there will be a delicious BBQ as well including vegetarian options. And strawberries & cream for dessert, naturally.

Win’s for Men’s 3s, 5s, 6s and Women’s 1s

The women’s 1st XI continued their excellent start to the season with another victory against Godalming led by two junior members. Izzy M-C (U16) led the way with the bat retiring at 60 before returning with the ball to take two wickets whilst Izzy B (U13) scored 16 and took 3 wickets. There were other notable contributions from the evergreen Wanless (23), Lyons (26) and Selwyn-Kuczera (6-2-7-2). The 3s continued their climb off the bottom of the table with their third win on the bounce. A disciplined bowling performance proved too much for Normandy who made 127, wickets shared around but important to note a promising debut senior performance from Olly K (U16) who took 3 for 16. The chase was easily negotiated with skipper Mills top scoring with 38.

The 5s provided an excellent social following a tight win at Mayow Park. Their opponents, LESSA, got off to a decent start but the top and middle order crumbled under the spin of C Hely who dismissed the two set batters in a spell of 10-2-22-5. This pattern was mimicked in the chase as SMCC lost regular wickets in pursuit of 138 but an 9th wicket stand put any nerves to bed, MacWilliam anchoring the team home with 22* to go with his two wickets earlier in the day. The 6s also turned in a good performance with spin once again proving key. Forman (10-1-48-3) and Harith (5-1-11-3) made short work of the NatWest lower order following a decent start to restrict the batting side to 144-9. The chase was professional with Moss rolling back the years with 31 and Thomas 47 to secure victory by 5 wickets.
