We have an exciting new online knowledge exchange series called HM|HC Talks. This interactive format is meant for you (and us) to learn about the great work being done around British Columbia and provide an opportunity for interested folks to connect with one another. Join us for the first ever HM|HC Talks on July 11, 1:30-2:30pm PDT! 

In the first HM|HC Talks, we will delve deeper into student loneliness with stimulus speakers from Vancouver Island University and Simon Fraser University.

Introducing: HM|HC Talks

 

HM|HC Talks is an exciting new series of online meetings available to our community of practice. Each meeting will focus on a particular health literacy topic and feature presenters who are doing related work on their campuses. The meetings will be hosted on Go2Meeting, allowing for active attendance and increased participation. HM|HC Talks' format intends for attendees to participate in dialogue and collaborate with presenters and other campus members on special topics of interest. 

 

HM|HC Talks: Responding to Student Loneliness on Campus (Pilot)

July 11 @ 1:30-2:30pm PDT
 

Featuring:
  • Loneliness in Post-Secondary Metro Vancouver Students, a study by Simon Fraser University. Presentation by Team ConnectFor 
  • Talk to Me, a campaign by Vancouver Island University. Presentation by Michael Kuntz
Online meeting participants will:
  • Learn how to identify and mitigate student loneliness from a health promotion lens
  • Meet like-minded people
  • Participate in facilitated conversations
  • Build connections to help local effort and broader collaboration
HM|HC Talks format:
  • Interactive meeting with the option to connect over webcam (preferred), chat or phone
  • Stimulus speakers to discuss health literacy topic followed by group dialogue

HM|HC Talks Presenters:

 

Jennifer Ye

For 21 years, an ardent lover of cats and steeped tea, Jennifer is entering her fourth year pursuing a B.Sc in Health Sciences with a concentration in Life Sciences at Simon Fraser University. She strives to be known as a passionate changemaker working to empower others.
 

Grace Kim

Grace is entering her 4th year of studies in the Faculty of Health Science at Simon Fraser University, eager to experience as much of the world as she can. Her passion lies in building relationships and working with others to create tangible change in communities she engages with. 


Renmart Buhay

Renmart is a fourth year Biomedical Physiology Student at Simon Fraser University interested in systems thinking, implementation science and health promotion. He is passionate in spreading evidence based research across real world settings. 
 

Michael Kuntz

Michael Kuntz is a clinical social worker who provides counselling at the Health and Wellness Centre at Vancouver Island University. He has thirty years of experience in family therapy and adult mental health crisis work. Last year, during his first week of work at VIU, he was bewildered by students' excessive use of screens throughout campus while many expressed feeling lonely, anxious, depressed and disconnected. As a result of this disparity, the Talk to Me campaign was born.
