New South Coast Prevention Team

The Health Promotion Officers from Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service and South Gippsland Hospital have come together to form the new South Coast Prevention Team. The South Coast Prevention Team currently consists Sarah Green from GSHS and Rachel Sands from SGH and BCH who now report to Rebecca Scott, South Coast Prevention Manager. The team will deliver prevention activities across South Coast to improve the health and wellbeing of our community and prevent disease.

The team will work across the sub-region and be based at the South Coast Primary & Community Partnership office at 33 Murray Street, Wonthaggi and can be contacted on 5672 2494. The team will also work from Bass Coast Health, South Gippsland Hospital and Gippsland Southern Health Services sites. The new arrangements mean the team will deliver local projects that align with state-wide priorities; preventing violence and injury, improving sexual and reproductive health and healthier eating and active living.

BreastScreen van returns to Leongatha and Foster with free breast screens

Between July and early September local South Gippsland women over the age of 50 can get free breast screens—the best way to find cancer early and save lives.

The hot pink BreastScreen van was last in the area in 2017, and women who screened then will be due for their next screen. Women over the age of 50 should get a breast screen every two years.

Breast Screens are with a female radiographer—you don’t need a GP referral or Medicare card, and they only take 10 minutes.

With the latest digital imaging technology and friendly staff, you’ll be looked after during your screen in the van.

Tell the women in your life over 50 to get their free screen too!

The van will be at Gippsland Southern Health Service (66 Koonwarra Rd, Leongatha) from 1 July to 2 August 2019 and then outside South Gippsland Hospital (87 Station Rd, Foster) from 5 August – 6 September 2019.

Call 13 20 50 or visit breastscreen.org.au to book
