Child & Youth Minister’s farewell message
Dear St Olave’s,
Thank you for being my home. Thank you for trusting me with your precious gifts – the soon-to-be leaders of our world and church. I came here in 2017 with the mission of shaping young minds. I remember my first Sunday, we were in the Parish Hall colouring when one of the children shouted: “God’s not a boy or a girl!” My eyes almost popped out of my head – what should I say? Before I could comment another child said, “Well duh!” And so it began, the children started to shape me. They taught me a few things about God that I never would have learned. God is fun! God loves to laugh! God would rather we colour every Sunday! God loves dramatic Bible stories. Oh, and how can I forget, God wants us to sing “Jesus Loves Me” every Sunday – no excuses.
In the Gospel of St. Matthew, the 18th chapter, Jesus says “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (NIV) Befriending the children of St. Olave’s has taught me an important lesson: God is calling me to be like them. Laugh like them, be honest like them and most importantly, trust as they do. I know goodbyes are difficult but I trust that this is not a final goodbye. We will see each other again. While I am stepping away from my role I will still be your sister in Christ which means we will meet again.
May God bless every parishioner who finds refuge within this community.
In Christ,
Brittany V. Hudson
